Default Replacement Tires

I've got a 2003 Stepside 4x4. This winter in Pennsylvania has led me to conclude that the Dunlop Grandtreck tires that came stock on my truck are not to my liking. I'm considering replacing them with B.F. Goodrich or Bridgestones. Can anyone elaborate on either tire or something else that they like?

Do you want on-road, on/off-road, or real off-road tires? Stock size?

Some I'd consider for on-road tires are Michelin LTX M/S, Michelin CrossTerrain, Yokohama Geolander HT/S, Bridgestone Dueler H/L, and so-called on/off road are Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo, Toyo Open Country A/T, and Michelin LTX A/T. For real off-road tires, you'll get lots of suggestions.

Go to the Preferred Vendor forum, click on the TireRack link, find your size and type tire, and look at their customer ratings and reviews.

Or how about getting those Dunlops siped...that will help the winter traction.

KLS I'm looking for a combination on-off road since I do quite a bit of daily driving. My wife has the Yokahama Geolanders on her Montero.....not too impressed. Thanks for the other suggestions! P.S. the size is 265-265/17

The Yokohama Geolandar HT/S is a better tire than the H/T which is probably what's on her car as (cheapo) original equipment.

The Geolandar A/T+II gets good reviews for an onroad/offroad tire.

You didn't post the correct size for you tires...anyway, check tirerack.com.

I love the Geolander AT II's. Running 285-75R/16's, very quiet (could not tell difference from OEM Dunlops). Very aggressive look too. PLUS.... the price is very good, $104 each at tirerack.com

Wink size isn't everything

would probably affect it only slightly. Not much difference in size, + 1/2 inch in diameter. tyres1.com has some utilities to figure out how much it will affect your speedo.

I noticed on the Michelin website that starting 4Q 2002, they will produce an LTX M/S in a LT285/75R16. Has anybody used this size with a stock Tundra? Any rubbing?

Im running the LT265/75/16 Michelins. The speedo is off by 4mph at 70mph. Thats the ONLY problem (if you can call that a problem) I can think off. The 1" taller tire does give you a 1/2" of height difference which does make the truck look better. That 1/2" is noticable, especially when you get in/out of the truck.

toy4play,

Do you have a lift kit on your truck? It looks as if you are using 285/75R/16's? Is that true? Do they rub at all? I was thinking about getting some Michelin's in that size.

Hey beirish,

Yes, yes, yes and yes. I have a 2 inch lift and get alittle rubbing when I backup/ turn. Not too bad though. Rubbing would be less if I went to 2.5 to 3 inch lift but I am alittle nervous about cv boot and joint damage at that height (I have a 4x). Some guys do it and it's ok, others will tell you they have had problems. That kind of lift on a 2x shouldn't be a problem.
