Disengage Tire Pressure Light '06 DC Tundra Got some winter rims/tire without a second set of sensors for my 06 Double Cab. How can I disengage or at least turn off the sensor light? Permanently is fine/preferred.
Thanks for your help,
W
I have the same question concering an 07 Crew Max Tundra.
With a wiring diagram you probaly can find the wire going to the low pressure light in the dash. You could find a convient place to cut the wire and tie in a switch. You could mount the switch on or under that dash, whatever is easy. You only would have use the switch twice a year. In the summmer you could switch the TPS warning light on and in the winter, with your winter tires on, it would could be switched off. Is there anyone out there with a wireing digram for an 06 & 07 Tundra or can describe how to located this wire?
I have a 06' DC and what I did was remove the TPMS valves from your tires and put all of them in the spare tire. Now, I'll have no problem with stock or aftermarket rims and the light went out as soon as it was done.
There was a guy on here who found the wiring diagram to permanantly turn off the TPMS computer, but you would have to search for it. I'm not sure where he found it or what his name is.
Actually, I just found the post I was talking about. here you go....
The orginal postee was Bully5.
Re: Tire pressure sensor
Do a search for TPMS. I disabled mine on my 06 DC and have had no problems at all. Here's what I did, from another thread:
"My light started flashing too, after checking all 5 tires repeatedly and trying the reset & waiting 20 min. each time, it would not reset.
The TPMS computer is accessible without taking apart the radio and dash panels.
I took the glove box out (2 screws below glove box), removed the inner liner behind the glove box (3 screws) and if you look up towards the radio you can see the TPMS module, Toyota even labled it for us.
It is tight, but my hands are big and I was able to unplug the connector, cut the Pink wire w/silver bands and ground it to a nearby screw. Plug the connector back in to the TPMS module and guess what? - NO MORE F***ING flashing light!
It took me about 10 min. on my break at work after reading the previous posts. Thanks for the help, thought I would try to clarify and make it easier for the next person.
(note: there are 2 pink wires, both are pink w/silver bands, but one has a thin black stripe on it, this wire has 12 volts! Make sure you cut the pink without the stripe. Luckily I tested the 2 wires first with my meter, they both have voltage going through them. The wire you cut - pink w/silver bands - has about 8 volts but it caused no problems when I grounded it so that must occur in the TPMS module when it isn't malfunctioning?)"
Love ya long time. That wasn't too bad. Couldn't get the plug out though but the wire sleeve was easy to open to take a peek as to which one to cut.
Thanks alot,
W
I assume that all of the sensors are located on the inside of the rim, so that they cannot be taken out unless the tire is removed from the rim, correct?

Correct.... just take your truck to the tire shop. And tell them you want to take off the tpms so you can get rid of the wheels. (which you are not going to do) They do not have to dismount the wheels, just break the bead. Then but all (4) sensors in the spare tire. And light will go out as soon as it is inflated back up. That way if you every want them again they are there...
Mine had an all pink and a pink with silver bands and black stripe. I guess I need to get my voltage tester fixed and test them both. Anyone else cut the wires and have a solid pink wire? by the way I also have an 06 but Reg. cab
Mine's been on so long now that I rarely notice anymore... Too cold to check the spare, I'll take my chances and do the "electric tape" mod (i.e. cover up the dash light) if it starts to ever bother me

Dredging up an old thread...but that is what the search function is for, right?
Anyway, I pulled out the glove box and liner...there are a bunch of wires back there, but I didn't see anything labeled TPMS. Does anyone have pictures of the TMPS and wire bundle they could post? I need to disconnect mine.
Just a little heads up... it's illegal for shops (or anyone in fact) to disable, or modify the TPMS system per FMVSS 138 and 49 U.S.C. 30122(b).
But if ya do it on your own, I won't tell anyone

I've done a lot of research on this issue and kind of surprised no one has asked this before.
Please keep in mind, I have not taken my truck appart yet so I may be misunderstanding something. If so, just tell me.
When I cut the wire, which side do I ground? The TPMS ECU end or the end that just goes into the harness?
Has anyone tried just running a jumper off of the wire without cutting it? I was thinking about just using a "trailer jumper" to tap off that wire to a ground (and possibly even get fancy and put a little toggle switch in the top of my glove box to disable/enable the system when I switch between my stock tires/wheels and my oversized tires.
