Default Biggest tires allowed on stock rims

I know you can fit a 305(33) on a stock rim but will the rim fit on the truck without rubbing the a-arm?

Who has the biggest tires on there truck on stock rims?

Some TS member posted that he had some rubbing with 285/75 tires. The narrowest rim recommended for the 33"/ 12.5" tire is 8.25.

Does'nt anybody read the lift info we have been talking about the past few months. You can fit any size of tire you want on the stock rim! I've just seen a guy here in Salt Lake running a set of 315's. The only thig is, how much do you want to alter the truck to make them fit! He had to notch, and patch the frame, and relocate the upper control arm, and run a Daystar 2" puck. With just a 2" puck, you can run a 255/85/16 (33x9.50). With no lift at all, you can run something like a 265/75/16 on the stock rim. If you change the width of the rim, the bigger tire will fit!

I have the TRD 17" wheels on an 05 A-Cab. I got a set of BFG 285/70/17's and they would not fit without a wheel adapter to seperate it a bit from the A-Arm. The tires fit on the rim though. I put them on now, and there was only very, very minor rubbing on the mudflap. I just cut the piece (part of the inside liner) and the rub was gone. This only happened at full turning though.

My rims aren't stock and I do have a small lift but...The 255/85 (which is slightly taller than a 285, but slightly narrower than a 265) will fit on stock rims if you modify the pinchweld (bfh) and you may have to cut the front of the fender flair a little.

What he said.

I have 285/70-17s on stock rims and I added a 1.5" wheel adapter to put some breathing room between the sidewall and the A-arm. Without the adapter, the sidewall made contact with the A-arm even at a standstill. This was with a 2.5" lift.

As for tires on a stock rim with a stock suspension, (and as has been repeated many times), you can go with a 265/75-16 or 265/70-17 with no problems. That's it.

Cyberbilly,

Do you have any issues with the tires rubbing the frame since you added the 1.5 spacer? I am running 285/70/17 BFG KO and at full turn I hit the frame. Someone else here mentioned the spacers but said it then made their tires rub the wheel well opening. What is your take? I get tired of it hitting the frame and considered downsizing ( but might look terrible with the lift).

I have no rubbing whatsoever.

What if I decided to run a 275/60R17 or 285/60R17 tire instead of the 265/65R17 that currently is on my truck?

I know the tire would fit but would I experience rubbing? I don't think I would since I'm lowering the sidewall.

Rubbing where? There are a lot of places the tire can rub.

If you run 275s or 285s on stock rims, you will still have rubbing on the UCA no matter what sidewall height. Why? Because the tire is too wide. So what you have to do is, move the whole tire outward; away from the UCA.

You can accomplish this two ways: You can buy rims that have a smaller backspacing, or you can use spacers/adapters to push the whole wheel/tire farther away from the hub.

Bottom line: If you are running stock wheels, you shouldn't try any tire wider than 265. If you are just going for the "big tire" look, consider maybe a 265/80.

I'm looking for something wide, not big really. I guess I'd have to opt for spacers then.
