There was a great thread on this website before it crashed regarding wheel and tire sizes that fit the Sequoia without requiring any mods. I wish I would have taken some notes, because I now need that info.....
I just ordered a White SR5 with the Alloy
Wheel package (so I could get the sunroof), and the first thing I want to do is replace the wheels/tires.
I'm going with 18x9 wheels, and I want the fattest rubber that will fit while maintaining the same tire circumference so my speedo remains accurate.

I printed this out a long time ago that, I think, Simias put together
"Tire size Overall diameter/width (inches)
265/70/16= 30.6/10.4 Stock
265/75/16= 31.6/10.4
275/70/16= 31.2/10.8 nota4re: no rub
275/75/16= 32.2/10.8
285/70/16= 31.7/11.2
285/75/16= 32.8/11.2 RMonsom: No rub, lifted 2.5
285/75/16= 32.8/11.2 SilverEyeInTheSky: rub
265/60/18= 30.5/10.4 1vstV8: no rub
285/60/18= 31.5/11.2 OMEGA: Don't know
285/60/18= 31.5/11.2 Bad_Knees: Rub
265/50/20= 30.4/10.4 Mine: No rub"
Again, I think Simias put this together but anyway, this will tell you what rubs, and what doesn't. When I was looking at rims I looked at 18x9 with 265/60-18 which wouldn't rub or 20x10 with 265/50-20 which looks like it wouldn't rub either. Good Luck - Dan
Email me (tim935@yahoo.com) in the coming weeks if you might be interested in selling your Sequoia rims/tires once you purchase some aftermarket ones. Thanks.
dang guys!! y'all are the best!! i was going to start this thread and ask if any of you still had the info that i wrote up before because this was some good info. thank goodness i didn't have to re-write everything again! again thanks all and this site is great because of the great people on it!!
okay, okay, enough of that!
4RunnerSR5,
what type of rims are you looking for? just remember that the rub may differ w/ the offset of the rim that you are using, plus all of the other factors (tire mfg, psi, etc...) so your best bet is to use the posted chart as a guideline, but make sure that they test fit each rim. take it easy! good luck on your rims and congrats on the new ride!!

For 18x9 rims. I strongly recommend 285/55. It is the same diameter as 265/60, but wider tire. It will look better. There should be no rub with this set-up or modification. I added some more goodies to my ride, I'll post once I get my digit camera fix.
Thanks for the info everyone. Sounds like my best best for tires is 285/55/R18. I've had great experience in the past with Michelins, so I'm leaning toward their new Pilot LTX series in this size.
I'm less certain about which wheels to buy. I'm leaning towards Chrome in a spoke pattern of some kind, and looking to spend about $300 or so per wheel. 18x8.5 or 18x9. www.victoriatire.com seems to be a good site to look at various options. If you enter the type of vehicle you have, they only show you the wheels which will fit. Incidently, they recommend using 265/60/18 tires rather than the 285/55/18s, so it would make me feel better if I heard from someone out there who is currently running 285s without any rubbing.
(It wasn't clear if 1stV8 has 285s installed or is just recommending them as a good choice....)
try www.tirerack.com also. the good thing about them is that they guarantee the fit on every rim that they show. also because they have actually fitted those rims on the actual ride. some of these other websites that show fitment, don't really test them all on the rides that they show. sometimes they just assume that they fit by the bolt pattern, offset, etc...good luck!

Does anyone remember the Miata tire-size calculator URL that was posted on this thread before the crash? It allowed you to put in tire sizes and it gave you the dimensions so you could compare it to the stock size.

Well, I have YET to upgrade my tires and rims to anything other than what I drove it home in.. I am still eyeballin them 22s boy! But, I was finally able to post a pic. Yup, A real picture of my ride...I took your advice and added it to my sig. From what I can see, so far, you and I are the only Sequoia Owners with pictures of our rides in the signature..Anyone else going to show?
i can't see the pic! hopefully one of the TX guys can help you fix it!
i'm hoping that Bad_Knees, 1stV8, lvsequoia and whomever else upgraded to post a sig pic as well.
yeah, if you are going for looks, 22s are definitely it! i'm no longer in search of 22s because i drive on a lot of different terrain and 20s aren't that bad, but i know that 22s would be a problem. if my ride were all street, then i would definitely get 22s. btw, maindog was selling his ACE T1s a while back. i almost considered buying them before i decided to keep my 20s. hopefully he re-registers.
