Tires and WheelsDiscussions and experienced advice about tires, wheels, traction control, proper balancing, improving tire life and more.
This is a discussion thread titled "Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor?", within the Tires and Wheels forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Well, I got them and they ride excellent. It feels alot tighter in turns than the oem dunlops did. I think this is due to the kevlar in the sidewalls. I would recommend them, although I did have a manufacturing defect in one tire, and I had to have it replaced(free of course) with 260 miles on it.
P.S.-Sears tire center's service is HORRIBLE!!! They will never see another penny from me! I went to have the bad tire replaced on a saturday, and I was told I would have to come back during the week because the Goodyear phone system was down, and the guy HAD to have an authorization number in order to get my tire covered under warranty. It took me complaining for ten minutes and being an a-hole to get an unsafe tire changed, and they damaged one of my rims! He stated the tire was unsafe and tried to send me down the road anyway when I had spent $760 there less than a week before! I have free tire rotations for the life of the tires but I still won't go back.
I went out to the truck this morning and found the stock front-right tire flat (nail). I could have gotten it repaired, but after running 25k miles on the stock tires, I've been looking at buying new ones and today was the day...
All I can say is that these tires are hard to find. I called at least 10 different local shops and no one had them in stock, but of course the Goodyear store had them in their warehouse and could deliver them.
The truck is sitting at the dealer getting her socks and shoes replaced right now, so I'll post how things go / opinion after a couple days.
You can order or get Wrangler Silent Armor's at Sam's. They have great pricing on the mounting/balance/road hazard package. I think it is $10.99 per tire.
The tires are on and I'm very happy so far. The ride quality appears to be better, the road noise is a little louder than the OEM BFGs, and traction is obviously much better.
I've heard complaints that these tires are heavier and eat into the MPGs, so I'll keep tabs on this. Previously on the BFGs, I was getting about 300 miles when the light came on (13.6 MPGs @ 100% city driving staying lower than 2000 RPMs).
