Default Would 285/55-20 BFG A/T's look dumb on my 2007 Crewmax?

I pretty much trashed my TRD wheels in the mud and and was thinking about getting the Alcoa 20's from Sparks with these BFG's and thought; "aren't 20 inch wheels with 285/55 (sorta low profile) All Terrains gonna look a little odd, almost contradictory? 20 inch low profile All Terrains?"

Any thoughts? I really want to stay close to factory sizing and there is very little available in that odd 2007 TRD size in the way of tires. Those OEM BFG rat trails hung me out to dry so I am moving on.

BTW, if you get in a little mud with those TRD wheels that have such positive offset and you rub up against a buried rock you are going to score/scratch your wheels. I know it can happen to any wheel but you can really get these TRD's.

Thanks guys.

if you plan on going back in the mud, i'd prolly get wheels that have more rubber. why don't you go with 275/60R20?

I don't think the extra 1/4" of side wall that the 275/60 will have is going to make much of a difference over the 285/55s. If you're planning on going in the mud, don't get 20s. Get a leveling kit, some good deep-set 18s so they don't get all scratched up and some BFG 305/65 18s.

I have 285 65 18's and have been in a decent amount of mud and been through some fairly deep ruts. I have a few scratches but there fairly high up and a a bigger tire wouldnt have helped unless it was a 35" maybe.

I would try to get some 18" TRD wheels sell your current ones and put some BFG KO's on it. If you go through mud a lot get the 305's or bigger. Id go with a M/T if its really thick slick mud.

Thanks tons for the replies! I was set to drop big bucks on some high dollar 20's when I came to my senses and bought some OEM TRD 18 inchers from ebay for cheap. I actually like the heck out of that TRD wheel. I'm not the type guy to do a lift but I'd like some BFG A/T's as I think (maybe wrongly) that it is the best A/T out there. But the nearest size is the 285/65-18 which Tundra786 has. I know they'll fit as our peculiar BFG Ragged Trail is actually 32.3 " tall so the difference is quite minimal in height and width. I am concerned about going to a Load Range E tire which I'm sure is much heavier than our stocker. Higher unsprung weight and significantly harsher ride are the worries. Are my concerns about going to a LR E misplaced? Tundra 786 are you happy with that tire? You've had them for a while now.

Much appreciate everyone's thoughts here.

I checked and the TA's weigh 17 lbs more per tire. 60 versus 43 lbs for the Ragged trail. Is that going to hurt the suspension components?

theres no way the tires going to hurt any of the suspension components. The size difference isnt much. They are heavier and less then .5inches bigger. The treading is awesome and the 10ply tire with heavy side wall is damn near indestructable.

Only problems with the tire is that it will hurt your MPG. If you want to go with a bigger tire id get the 305 65 18's and all you need to do is bend the skid plate inward an inch or so on each sides. Do a few searches and find out exactly how much needs to be bent. All you would need is a pair of good pliers.

The BFG KO's wear nice and slow and you can comfortably get 45-50k miles out of them. They are 10ply and have an E load rating and are snow rated. Check out their company website.

IMO they make one of the best All Terrain Tires out there.

Well, my ebay rim buying experience isn't turning out so well. Rims were scratched enroute (nothing soft between rim and cardboard box) and one has a couple of gouges in it. Might be the carrier, hard to say. Definitely could have been packaged a little more intelligently. I am dealing with the Carrier and the seller now on resolution. ebay seller doesn't want to pay for any shipping. He's freaking nuts. Damaged wheels show up and I'm supposed to eat shipping both ways? All I did was order the darn things. Does ordering rims off ebay normally suck so badly?

Thumbs up Got the wheel and tire setup I wanted.

I went out and bought 4 real TRD wheels (17 inchers) and had Costco put 4 BFG All-Terrain T/A's in 285/70-17-LR-D on my truck. I am stoked! It looks awesome (a little mean) and rides great and I have the wheels and tires that I really wanted-finally.

Click on the camera to see the pixel limited pictures I could upload. Trucks a little dirty and wet. I'll upload more when it's clean. If it ever stops raining.

Now I just have to sell 8 OEM TRD wheels and 4 BFG Rugged Trail tires. I ended up settling with the ebay seller.

I was under the impression that only 18's and up would clear brake calipers on the 07's and up Tundras.Guess now I know 17 would work.

They're a special TRD wheel. Only specific 17 inchers meant for the 2007 Tundra will work.

I have Cooper Zeon LTZ's in 275-45-20. The tread is similar to the Nitto T.G.'s and only 600 shipped from discount tire direct. THey had them in 275-55-20 also. I have hardly had them off road yet, so i cant tell you about offroad performance, but onroad performance is great. These are some great tires. I have gotten a ton of compliments on them.

Well, if anyone gives a rats a$$ I ended up giving those wheels and tires to a GI from Fort Knox who was just about to deploy to Iraq for the 3rd freaking time. He showed some interest in my Craigs list ad and between all 8 wheels there are 4 that look fine plus the BFG's only had 8k on them. He bought a 2008 DC base model Tundra 5.7 Maroon with the steelies. I advised him to check on the TPMS sensors, too. Super nice guy with 17 years in the Army. He was happy with the gift and it made my day. Can't do enough for those folks that serve over there. Doesn't make me a saint or anything but it felt better than selling them for a few hundred.
