Default Toyo AT; LT or P Metric

Have decided on the Toyo AT to replace teh OEM tires. I see that the LT version is a 10 ply tire. Is this overkill? I'm not a hard off roader, hunting and fishing mostly, a little bit of muddy roads. I tow a trailer occasionally loaded w/ a Polaris Ranger, about 3000 lbs ttl.

Here's the? Are the tread designs the same? Can I save $200 and get the metric and be happy? I don't really know all the differences, so give it all to me, facts, opinions, but keep the outright lies to yourself!

For your use I think a P-metric would be fine; after all, that's what Toyota puts on from the factory.

Not all sizes are available in a P-metric, however. The Toyos I run are only available in LT.

Front Susp: Stock coilovers, 4" lift (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...6-4-inch-lift/), swapped extra spacers for Bilstein 5100s on lowest setting, wheel well height still 41.5." Rear Susp: ProComp ES3000 #326510 (2.25" taller than stock), 1.25" blocks plus PRG mini-pack (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...and-new-truck/) gives 2.25" total lift, parking brake cable bracket spacers, wheel well height 43." Front diff and rear ds drop; trailer hitch electrical harness tucked up above bumper. After 20K miles swapped 305/65/18 BFG AT for 285/75/18 Toyo AT, still on stock 18x8x60 offset TRD wheels, about 1/8" clearance to sway bar. Like the extra height but miss the width. Next time either 305/70/, 295/70, or 35x12.50/18. Added 5th 285/75/18 Toyo AT as spare. Bed Bounce: Stiffer E-tires are worse than stock P-metric; biggest improvement from PRG mini-pack, slight improvement from shocks. Still a stiff ride but tolerable now. Best things about this truck: 5.7 and transmission, interior size and comfort, very quiet at high speed. Worst things about this truck: bed bounce, no VSC in 4wd, mileage sucks above 70.

If your factory tire is a P-rated tire, then go with that, likewise with the LT tires. If you put an LT tire on a P-rated vehicle, you'll kill the ride, and be bouncing around for the next 40,000+ miles.

This may be a dumb question, but what are the differences between the two? Greater load capacity? I see the LT has both a 6 and a 10 ply available. Just trying to make the right choice w/o losing mileage, amd getting a good tire. Thanks for all the help.

P = Passenger
LT = Light Truck

The difference is usually the tread pattern and load rating.

P: less aggressive tread, less stiff sidewalls, more forgiving ride
LT: heavier, rougher ride, better sidewall intrusion defense, much higher payload

From your description of use, P should be good enough. Because of my own extensive gravel road and occasional offroad forays, and my 11,000 lb 5th wheel, I went the LT tire route. The ride isn't bad, but I feel the bumps more than with the original BFG rugged trails.
