This is a discussion thread titled "What would happen if I went from 245s to 265s?", within the Tires and Wheels forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I'm thinking about going from a 245/75/r16 to a 265/75/r16. What effects would that have on my fuel mileage, speedometer, odometer? anything else i need to consider? Thanks for your input
Re: What would happen if I went from 245s to 265s?
you would drop like 1 mpg... but it will look waaay better

On an 01? Your speedometer will probably be correct .
Mostly kidding there...I don't know if the speedos on bone stock trucks were set for 245/70/16 or if they're all set for 265/70/16. The difference is minimal, tho. You shouldn't see any negative effects. Highest mileage I ever got with street 265/70/16 was about 21 or 22, the truck was new to me and I was babying it.
Most Tundras off the lot came with 265/70/16 and an Access Cab, you pretty much had to request anything else.

There's a lot of gas mileage threads. And a lot of TS members run 265-75-16 tires because(they say) it's the largest tire you can run without a lift. Your fuel mileage will go down, speedometer will read low, & your odometer will record fewer than actual miles. Your torque will suffer, too. I'd stick with the 245-75.

you'll be off by like 1mph. lose 1 mpg, and your torque won't change at all

No problems. We had that size tire on our 02, it looked a lot better. The 245 looks small, the 265 fills out the wheel well better and makes it ride a little higher.
Re: What would happen if I went from 245s to 265s?
Adding larger tires makes the truck look way better. I have a 07 tundra crewmax and I am only going to put after market wheels on it. Lifting them and then adding larger meats just to make it look good will end up costing way more money in fuel in the long run. My friend done all this and lost 4 mpg. Now he wants to go back to stock.
