Tires and WheelsDiscussions and experienced advice about tires, wheels, traction control, proper balancing, improving tire life and more.
This is a discussion thread titled "ICON Vehicle Dynamics...Wheels?!", within the Tires and Wheels forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
We here at ICON Vehicle Dynamics have decided to expand our product line and break into the wheel market.
The first line of wheels we will offer will be our Forged line. These will be a one piece design with optimized offset and backspacing for clearing larger tires with our suspension systems. The first out will be a bead lock, for offroad use. The DOT Approved version with a simulated bead lock will be out soon after. They will be a 17x8 or 8.5" wheel so very common and easy wheel to buy tires for. I have attached a little spy shot of the Forged Bead-Lock version, let me know what you think. Thanks.
Well I would/will be buying some "IF" you start by being the company that gets smart by making them in 3 5/8" Backspacing. Reading all the tire rubs/rubbing threads is ridiculous. they all indicate the 4.5" backspacing or having the go get wheel spacers, etc. to make the tires work. It would be real nice to see a wheel that works as good as the Mickey Thompsons for clearance/turning. Some WELD wheels worked but those are no longer available.
Most manufacturers making/producing the wheels for the Toyotas are setting them at 4" or 4.5" backspacing with whatever offsets which only makes the tire Rub on the frame defeating the entire purpose of running the bigger tires for the Toyota Tundra.

Hope you're planning to send a wet napkin for my keyboard.
They look great! What's the backspacing/offset plan?
Any chance of fitting something like a 37x12.5R17 TrXus MT, BFG TA/KO, KX, or other 37x12.5 on 17 tires on a stock spindle and aftermarket low-profile upper control arm, using these rims?
Price posted on TTORA was 600+ for a single-lock wheel which IMHO is off the charts when you consider you can pneumatically double lock an aluminum wheel for a little less than 200$+cost of the rim, and get a steel double beadlock with all the extras for a hair over 400$.

Remember though, this is a FORGED wheel, just like WELD and ALCOA. That process isn't cheap and makes for a much stronger wheel.
The "I" is also raised and hand sanded and the bolts will likely be 12pt rather than hex bolts.
This is a flat out sic wheel.
They will likely be coming out with a cast version for the pavement that won't be as expensive and will have a faux-lock rather than a true bead lock. Or a faux lock look anyway.
Yeah, $650 ain't cheap but forged wheels aren't cheap from anyone.
