This is a discussion thread titled "Replacing tires soon on 2002 tundra 4wd", within the Tires and Wheels forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I recently bought a 2002 trd tundra and am looking to replace the tires soon, the tires on the truck now are 265/70/16, but I have an extra set of Firestone Destination AT 255/70/16 leftover from when I had an explorer. Will these fit without any issues? Any downsides to having skinnier tire on a truck? Thanks.
That tire is narrower and also smaller in diameter. I do not recommend putting a smaller tire on your vehicle, you have a greater chance of mechanical problems. You'll also get less meat on the ground causing tire spin. Your speedometer will be off. etc.

it depends on the model/package tundra you got. some of the lower end ones came with 245s... all the rest 265. check your door placard to be sure though. if it says 245, it should be okay... if it's 265s, i dont recommend it.

Thanks everybody for your help. I think I'll use them temporarily until I can afford to get what I want. If the performance and drivability is noticably different then I'll switch 'em, but, yeah, money is definitly an issue for the time being.
