Thumbs down Tundra wheels corroding and turning black!

Has anyone else's factory alloy wheels started corroding? I am noticing what appears to be the clearcoat finish coming off in some areas and the brake dust seems to be staining the aluminum. Dealer says it is not covered under warranty . I'll be calling Toyota to complain..........

all by products of the brake system cause havoc. I always at least wash the wheels if Im too lazy to wash the whole thing. Get a good pressure washer or find a place that has one. A steam clean might be better.

I've never heard of this happening. What would having the brake TSB done have to do with it?

I have the same problem too. Especially on the inside of the wheel. Nothing out there seems to clean them. I've even tried Gumout Carb & Choke cleaner which seems to clean any stain, dirt, or grease (not on the interior though ) I've bought a set of IS wheels for the summer and am going to use the factory wheels for the winter up here in New England. I guess it doesn't matter if they are dirty anyway, but they still shouldn't be that hard to clean.

    Default POS "Premium" ...

Same problemo, outside of wheels "permanently?" stained, no corrosion though, after only ~ 2 1/2 years.

At ~74K original ABS brakes, have had no TSB work.

This is a true back-country truck, so will ignore it, never liked the "star-fish" wheel anyhow. Notice the new '03 premium 17" wheels are almost an exact copy of the 1991 Toy era Truck/ 4Runner 15" wheels. Those never got stained over the ten years we owned the '91 Truck & 4-Runner.

    Cheers,
    -RH

My '01 Sequoia stained....This one is too new to see if the 17" wheels will hold up better.

Clean them once a week, even if it is raining.

One thing I have noticed is that the '03 does not dust up the wheels nearly as bad as the '01....even when towing.
