Default Proper air pressure for off-road & sand

Taking a yearly trip to the lake this 4th of July and we always use some pretty rough oilfiled roads to get to the shore. Once we get there its pretty deep sand. I'm wondering what pressure I should deflate my tires to when I go off-road for a more comfortable ride over the rough roads and better traction in the sand.

I have Pro Comp 6066 20" wheels & BFG A/T KO 305/55R20

Thanks!

Well you have pretty low profile tires for offroad ( the price you pay for 20's ). But I always ran 15 psi in the sand. The tire will fatten out quite a bit and look pretty flat but traction is much improved. You run the risk of bead separation though at lower pressure so watch your wheelin. Also take a compressor or air tank with you to pump them back up for when you get back to the roads. You should have pretty decent traction with your wider tires though already. Maybe air em down to 20-25 psi and see how they grip.

Awesome. Thanks for the input! I won't be doing any serious wheeling so hopefully bead separation @ 20-25 psi won't be an issue - Just need a little more comfort on 20 miles of oilfield roads and a little bit of sand.

This is a good place for me to post this question...

I am also going to make a trip to a sandy beach....PINS
for some SURF FISHING ACTION!

I have a 4x4 but I have the michillens street tires stock from dealership...

Will I be ok?

With my previous experience, I was able to get out of rough areas in Mustang Island, Bob Hall Pier areas and Packery Channel before it was paved....but this will be my first time taking my truck to Big Shell...

ONly time I got stuck was when I was being stupid ....sand duning ....I WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN!!!! Unless I have the correct vehicle and place to do it. The dune basically titter tattered my truck....all 4 wheels were on air...with the dune holding my frame up.

So back to the question...If I am careful, will I be ok with basic street tires?

Thanks!

When tires bald out...I will buy all terrains...didnt want to waste the street tires.

You should be fine. I have the same tires and and drove 7 miles along the beach every day to get to a rental house on the Outer Banks.

I Just aired them down to about 18 lbs and no problems at all. If you feel like you are digging in at all just air down a few more pounds. Remember, be consistent on the throttle and keep up momentum in the soft stuff.
