Default 2010 Tundra XSP 20" BFG AT change ride?

I was wondering about the 20inch wheels and BFG All Terrain wheels that come with the XSP Tundras. Do these wheel/tire combos change the towing or cargo capacity? Also, is the ride and handling much different than say 18inch stock alloys?

Thanks!

Default Re: 2010 Tundra XSP 20" BFG AT change ride?

Hi,

The biggest driver in the changes will based on the tire you put on the 20" wheels. The tow & haul capacities are a function of the max weight the tire can handle (independent of rim size) so this change shouldn't affect it - though my observation in looking at tires is that the wider the tire the higher the max load on the tire. Just make sure whatever tire you select for the 20" wheels meets or exceeds the max load of your OEM tire.

Actually in your case, since the 20" wheels are a factory option, I'm sure your fine from a towing & hauling perspective. Usually the overall size of the tire (width and diameter) will be the same between the 18 & 20 rims when they are factory installed configuration.

In theory, the 20" should perform better in handling and slightly degrade the ride, but again this can be influenced greatly by the tires themselves. I went from the OEM 16" to a 20" wheel on both of my 1st generation tundras, and the handling is much better (also because I run a sport tire and not an AT tire) and the ride is only marginally stiffer.
