Default tires on v-6 tundra.....help

I just bought a brand new tundra and the tires and rims are pretty small, 245/70/16, i know that 265/75 mounted on a 16x8 rim will fit under a TRD offroad truck fine, but will they fit under mine? It is a Sr5 also if that makes any difference... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am almost 100% sure you can run 265/75/16's on your stock rims with no lift. You should have no rubbing at all with that setup.
The only difference in your SR5 and the TRD is the front springs and shocks, but that still should not matter as far as tire size goes. The 265 is a 31" tire and will fit your stock 16x7 rims fine. It would have a wider footprint on a 8" wide rim but I wouldn't worry about it. The TRD Tundra's come with a 265/70/16 on the same rims as yours. The 265/75/16 is about an inch taller that stock. Go for it and enjoy the new look.

Post Tundra SR-5

I have an SR-5, installed 17x8 with BFGoodrich KO 265-70-17 tires, it would rubbed specially on the passenger side with a person on. I had to buy NWOR progressive springs for the front and TRD Yellow shocks and the problem was solved.

Good luck.

I've got an 01 V6 with an eagle alloy 16X10 rim and BFG 265/75/r16s. Believe the offset to be +10mm on the rim. I get a slight rub on the back side of the fender, right at the mud flap. Only hear the rub in reverse and at full turn but concerned about suspension travel. Wondering how they will do if I bottom out the suspension. We'll see this weekend since I'll be in Mexico for the Baja Mex 300 just south of Ensenada.

Has anyone put 285s on a v6 access cab? Would that turn my truck into a snail?

It will change your odometer/speedometer reading alright, but I've not noticed any performance loss whatsoever! I can still bark the tires with the V6 AT if I'm not careful.

Just make sure you have a good lift!

My speedometer (mpg) is off 7% with the 265s. Never checked the speed. Checked it with the mile markers. In 100 miles (by the mile markers) my speedometer reads 93--Buzz

Does anyone know if there's a chart/list of what the actual speedo ratings are with the different size tire diameters? I haven't officially measured mine, just that it's reading somewhere around 5-6 mph slower than actual speed at around 60mph. Like I said, I haven't done any actual testing yet.

I have an '00 Tundra and an '01 Sequioa, both with 265/70R16 tires. I use a GSP mapping receiver on long trips, so I've checked the speedometer and odometer against the GPS hundreds of times.

The Tundra speedometer is dead on up to 85, but its odometer reads about 0.9% low, meaning it reads nine miles low on a 1000 mile trip.

The Sequioa speedometer reads dead on at low speeds, but it reads 1.5 mph high from 55 on up. Its odometer matches the GPS to better than 0.1 mile difference on a 1000 mile trip.

Go figure.

Hey Gary - you must have the 5-Speed, eh? I have the 33's on my truck and I get plenty of corner squeal when I'm pushing it - in fact, enough to catch a cops' ears/eyes the other day when I was rushing through a yellow light! Damn, if I didn't feel like a foolish teenager again when he pulled me over! It's been over 15 years since I've gotten stopped for anything - 'bout time I guess! Luckily he just gave me a warning to slow down, even though I fully deserved a ticket IMO.

After you get that SC don't forget to get the heavier clutch, and I'd bet you could do more than "chirp" in 2nd.

Yeah thanks. That link has been previously posted here - but I suck at math!

I'd like to see a chart that shows something like "60mph=65.5mph with this size tire", etc...

Anybody see something like that? Or - is anybody with a calculator (and ambition) wanna make something like that?

Jeff

PXL,

Try this: http://www.4lo.com and click on the object that says "Speedomter Check" in the brown bar across the top. I found that with 33s, my speedo and odo are off by about 1 mph for every 10 (around 9-10%)

Hope this helps.

PS-The grill worked out great! Hope you're feeling better!
