This evening while driving home my driver side front wheel made a few knocking noises, the front of the truck went down, and I watched my tire careen at 40 mph down a hill. The good news is that an irrigation canal stopped my tire from going to far, the bad news was rolling up my pants and wading across in 40 degree weather.
4 weeks ago I had a flat and brought my tire into Les Schwab, which is a northwest chain of tire/brake/alignment...etc. stores. They took off the wheel and tire, fixed it, and off I went. Now, I realize that there is such a thing as coincidences, but it seems likely to me that they over / under torqued the lug nuts. One lug was shorn off. The others were there, and I found two lug nuts on the side of the road. I'm sure my rotor and what not are screwed up, but also my front side panel has been bent upwards, and mostly disengaged from the rest of my truck.
Oh yeah, I had a question. Is 4 weeks too long to drive without having a problem? Should I have a legitimate gripe with the service center? I had it towed to their place, and it is now sadly sitting in their parking lot, with the front wheel on the front seat. I'm sure they won't be happy to see it on a Monday morning.
Should they cover anything? Everything? I'm going in tomorrow morning and hopefully see what happens. I was just hoping for any advice before that time comes.
They should cover everything! That lug bolt they broke made the other lug nuts loosen up. I had a tirekingdom do the exact thing to an old company van of mine. Thank goodness it held on long enough for me to pull over. What if you had been on the interstate? That could have killed you.
Wow! Glad you were not hurt! Did you retorque the lugs after you had that done? My shop writes it on the ticket in big bold letters that you MUST either bring it back by the shop or retorque the lugs down yourself after 50 miles because they settle and can come loose.
Maybe they came loose and that caused the other things to happen to the studs? Just a thought. Hopefully they do cover it if they did indeed do that.

"They Were Just Jealous That My Tundra Pulled More Kitty's Than A Bowl Of Milk"
A new Les Schwab opened in our neighborhood a while back. I took my Tundra to have the tires rotated. When I got home I checked the torque setting on each lug nut. On the left front wheel they had stripped two lugs. I called them and they assured me that they would replace the lugs. I said no - that I had extras at home. My wife was leaving early the next morning on a 500 mile trip. I was angry to say the least. That day they had 4 trainees working. I know what happened ... one of those guys took the impact wrench and ran the lugs too tight. Maybe that's expected from a rookie but they didn't say anything to me !?! I wonder how many other customer's car are driving around with stripped lug nuts?
That was my first last and only visit to Les SCHWAB!

LACK OF PLANNING ON YOUR PART ----------------
DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN EMERGENCY ON MY PART !!
So, an update if anyone cares. They gave me an incident report form for their insurance company to fill out, while they said they were going to check the video from that day. Apparently they record everything. 45 minutes later when they came out, they never mentioned what they saw on the video, but they explained to me that they thought their insurance would cover everything because the situation was "cut and dry." So, besides the pain in the butt of dealing with this all, at least it shouldn't cost me anything.
