Default Double Flats - Need Replacement Tire Recommendation

Hi,

I was driving on a well used logging road in Northern Maine, when my warning light came on that I was losing air pressure. Stopped my 2008 Toyota Tundra TRD Double Cab to check out my tires, and watched in horror as my passenger tires front and rear slowly went FLAT! I have the stock tires BFG P275/65/R18 Rugged Trail T/A. Not "Rugged" at all!!

Must have hit a sharp stone - hole was in the same area on each front and rear tire!

So, now, I'm looking for a set of replacement tires. Don't laugh, but my dream tire will have the following qualities:

(1) a tire that will give me the most off road protection (10 Ply);

(2) handle rain and snow;

(3) not be a hard riding, and a noisy tire during extended highway driving.

(4) can I go up in size from 275 to 285 with my 18" wheels?

Ok, what tire types.models can you recommend for me, and thanks so much for your help!!!

I just put a set of Michelin LTX A/T2 on in LT 275/70/18s, pretty sure they will meet all your requirements. Only downside is the cost, about $990 was the cheapest I could find them, I got them from Tirerack.

Try these:

1.) Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor, in the size of your choice, in load range E, meets industry standards for a dedicated snow tire even though it is an all season A/T. Most users report good off road traction and low noise levels. Can be had in 275/65/18, 275/70/18, and 285/65/18.

2.) Michelin LTX A/T 2, in load range E. Nice looking tire with a very high tread wear rating, user reviews indicate very good highway manners. Not as aggressive in off road traction though. Should be available in 275/65/18, 275/70/18, and 285/65/18.

3.) BF Goodrich A/T KO, pretty much the standard by which all other A/T tires are judged. Pricey, and not as quiet as some other choices but a good all around tire. Closest size is 285/65/18 in load range E.

4.) Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac, very aggressive A/T tire almost a M/T tire. Also branded as a dedicated snow tire, and can also accept #16 carbide studs. Not sure what sizes are available other than 275/65/18 in load range E. This tire will be a bit noisy from the look of it, and will display some tread block flex around corners. On the plus side it appears capable of laughing at most any mud, rocks, gravel, or snow you throw at it.

Hi Coal Dragger,

Many thanks for the suggestions. But how do you choose? My list of possible tires is now at eight. Thought it would be easier than this.

Very much appreciate your input.

Go to tire rack and read some user reviews, look at the performance ratings for each tire and make your choice based on what strengths are most important to you.
