Default 285's rubbing on frame...

Anyone experience the 285/75/16's BFG AT's rubbing on the inside of the frame on real tight turns? Have the Fabtech 2.5" and the only bummer with bigger tires is the occasional rubbing

I used to have that too, but it was only slight when the steering wheel is turned all the way left or right. It is completely harmless.

Most likely the offset on your wheels are the cause of the tire rubbing you’re having. I have BFG 285’s with a 2-inch spacer and I have no rubbing. They are on 16x8 Alcoa’s that has zero offset. Alohas!

The back spacing has to be 4.5 not 4.9. My first set of rims came it at 4.9 and rubbed, the correct ones came it at 4.5 and no rubbing.

Does anyone know if I can mount 285's on stock rims with wheel adapters and get zero rubbing? I plan on getting 2in. cornfeds and want to know if this will take care of the frame rubbing so I just have to pay for the tires and the adapters. If anyone has used wheel adapters with stock rims, did they stop the rubbing? what size are they? and how much $$$ did they cost you? I want to have a good strong set up that I don't have to worry about, and one that won't completely drain my bank account. Thanks.

My set includes a 3" lift, 2 sets of 285/75R16 tires, stock rims with mud tires for summer, 8" steel rims with all terrain tires for winter, and 1-1/4" Motorsport Technologies hubcentric wheel spacers.

I do get minor rubbing with the winter setup and I will probably get some with the summer setup, but you can read about that if you search for stuff I have submitted to this board. I did not get rubbing without the wheel spacers, but needed them to provide clearence from the upper A-arm for chains. Machining the spacers to 1" would probably cure the rubbing problems, but will obviously weaken the wheel spacers. I will contact Motorsport Technologies to ask whether this is acceptable, and report their answer. I found Motorsport Technologies to be very good to deal with. I believe there are others on this board with the same wheel spacers and setup who might be able to give other opinions, and provide different experiences.

Bill,

Is this the URL for the Motor Sports you are mentioning?

http://www.motorsport-tech.com/Pages/Adapters.html

I noticed they have an adapter for the Land Cruiser/Lexus with 5 lug nuts but no specific mention of the Tundra with 6 lug nuts.

I am in definite need of a spacer after I put on the 285's with the Daystar lift as the tires are rubbing the tower/control arm to a nice shiny gleam.

Yes, that's the place. They can make adaptors for nearly any application. Just contact them for your application. The prices are on their board. Price depends on number of studs, whether or not hub centric, and amount of spacing.

2" spacers/adapters? Your tires don't rub anywhere? I would think that your tire will hit the plastic piece that's on the bottom of the front bumper or the mud guard.

A long while back, I got 2.5" wheel adapters. I have 16x8 wheels with a +2mm offset with BFG 285's and I got some serious rubbing in the areas mentioned above although the tires never touched the frame. I do have 2.75" of lift.

I just installed the Daystar Lift kit as well with a resulting 3.5" in the front and 2" in rear (hasn't settled yet?) Before the lift, my 285 BFG A/T on a Niche Throttle rubbed on the frame at full lock out, now I have no frame rubbing, but curiously, the Rt Upper A-Arm is experiencing this shiny gleam. The Lt side has 1 finger width clearance, the rt--not so much. It only rubs when the suspension is fully extended (off-roading). Oh well...
I ordered 1/4" spacer for 6-lug Toy from jcwhitney.com to push the whole wheel out just a tad more for clearance. They were 7 bucks a piece. If they work, I'll get some for the rear as well...

Default wheel spacers

Be sure when you install those spacers, you ceck your lugs to make sure you still have enough bite. You should have AT LEAST 7 full turns.
