This is a discussion thread titled "Bigger Tires for Stock Tundra", within the Tires and Wheels forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I don't currently own a Tundra, but am planning to trade in my current truck for a new Tundra Double cab next year. When I do purchase my new truck I want to put bigger tires on it. The stock tires are just too small. I will be getting a 4x4 and would like to put 285/70/R17 BFG All Terain tires on it. Will these tires fit on the stock 17" rim, and will this combo fit on the stock Tundra without lifting it? If I have to lift it what would be recommended (would want just enough lift to fit the tires on)? Any idea how much it would cost to be lifted if necessary?
Thanks for the info. I am actually wanting to get the factory 17" wheels on the truck. I assume that will make the tires about an inch taller and would definitely need a lift. Would I only have to raise the front end just to level the truck or would I have to raise the rear end as well? As you can tell I have no experience with this.
I'm no pro, but I believe all you would need is a front spacer (1 or 2 inch will do). Many companies make em, Tuff Country, Performance, etc., but a lot of folks here have gone with with the Cornfed spacers.
Go to cornfedspacers.com or tuffcountry.com, and they will have what you will need to "level" the truck and make room for bigger tires.

Cory, you can just lift the front without having to lift the back. Just like the others said, a 1 or 2 inch spacer will allow you to fit those tires without a problem. At stock height, I'm thinking the biggest tire you can fit will be 265-70-17's.
Cory, you mentioned wanting to get the 17" wheels and that it might make the tires about 1" taller. Actually, going from a 16 to a 17" wheel shouldn't make a difference in tire height. Basically, the sidewall of a 17" tire would be smaller than that of an equal height 16" tire. One reason for this is a stiffer, more sporty ride, especially when cornering as there would be less sidewall flex.
Here's a cool website you can go to that you can put in the different size tire combos to get the "mathematical" tire size. It's basically a metric to standard tire conversion chart. If you put in the 2 sizes that Toyota offers (one 16" size and one 17" size) you'll see that they are very close in height. 265/70/16 vs a 265/65/17.
Well, now that I have re-read your post, maybe you meant that you'll be 1" taller with the 285's? If that's the case, then yes you will and forget everything I just said (but the conversion chart is still pretty cool!)
