I have 33K on my 2001 Tundra 4X4. Just got new Big O P265/70R16 Sport Touring, Big Foot AT tires, the dealer has the Hunter GSP 9700 Road Force balancer and can't seem to get the tires balanced, he has replaced all 4 two at a time, and the balance is worse now than it was with the first set, I have been back 7 times. Any suggestions, I am going to get him to replace these with Michilian's what tire works best on the road with the Tundra? Thanks for any suggestions. Don in Roseville, CA

I too bought Big O tires after my OEM tires wore out. I bought the Big Foot AT's. Nice at first but not long at all and they wore fast and I experienced vibration issues also. Early this year I bought 4 new Dayton Timberlane HT's from Tires Plus. Thier wearing great and are as smooth as the day I got them.
This is the 3rd set of tires I've had on my 2000 and I only have 58k miles on it.
Hope this helps.
For info, most Big-O tires are made by the Kelly division of Goodyear. Dayton is a brand of Bridgestone-Firestone.
Michelin LTX M/S is the yardstick for excellent tires. Michelin Cross Terrain probably gives more of a car-like ride, also excellent. Toyo Open Country A/T and Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo are also well worth your consideration.
Ken

odd...i've had two sets (different sizes) of kelly's big-o branded tires, both xt tho, 20K winter miles on the first set with studs, 25K+ on the current set. never had a problem, and the first set was on stock rims. not all big-o dealers are equal, the tire shop i used in colorado was top notch, whereas the joint i got an alignment from was a place i recommend my friends avoid. it might just be the shop can't get it right for one reason or another.
btw, the main reason to get big-o tires is for the no-fault warranty as it relates to offroad travel...if i were looking at road tires, i'd seriously go with ken's recommendation.
I have similar experience with my 1998 4Runner.
I have gone through Michelin LTX, M/S, and AT's
Then the Bridgestone Revo AT, and now the Bridgestone Dueler H/P.
They have all cupped and created bad vibrations...
I have had the dealer check all or the ball joints, etc and they say they cannot find anything to cause the issue.
After this many different tires, I feel like the tires are not the issue.
Mine becomes noticable over 60 mph.
I am starting to suspect the rims. What rims do you guys have?
See attached photo for my rims... Maybe there is something to it.
Let me know your thoughts, or if you found a solution.
I am on the brink of selling the paid for 4Runner and dont want to have a car payment if I can get a fix.
thx

OK, You bought a nice truck... PUT NICE TIRES ON IT. Michelins are great. I prefer the LTX over the Cross Terrain, but either should solve your problems. Its not that they are having a problem balancing them.. its a problem of uniformity. I can balance a square, but that won't make it ride good. Have they mentioned anything about your wheels being out of round? Just a question... sometimes if you hit something the old tires, being more flexible, wear quickly to accomodate a newly bent wheel. You don't notice a vibration until you put new "round" tires on the bent wheel. Either way, you'll get a better ride with Michelins. Let them adjust out the private brand Big O tires.
Suwaneeman1,
Thanks for the input. Unfortunately I have had the same issues with Michelins too. Michelin LTX, Michelin MS, Bridestonde Duelers AT, Bridestone HT all seemed to develop a vibration.
I agree the Michelins were probably the best. The Br. HS rode pretty well too. Also, I found a few other people in town that have the same issue and none of the dealerships seem to be able to figure it out.
I decided it was time to go another direction.... I traded it in on a Sequoia for my wife. What a great ride! She loves it, I enjoy it, and now the whole family is happy.
Thanks again.
