Question Widest possible tire on an 18 inch rim?

So, what is the widest possible tire I can stuff under the truck without having too much excess tire "hanging" out? 10 inch? 12 inch? 14 inch? I have something in the works, but need to see what tire I am going to use to accomodate the rim. Of sourse, this is to hit the 1/4 mile, only the rear tires are what I need. Any and all help is muchly appreciated, thanks. I was thinking a 315?? Maybe more????

-Coming to you live from Afghan, Gutz....

If you are planning something for the track make sure you check the tire load ranges. What size wheel are you thinking about?

I plan to use the stock 18 inch steelies, and widening them up to about 10, maybe 12 inches, depending on whether they can fit.

Here's the offset ranges we recommend to keep your wheels and tires within the fenders. Note, smaller offsets place the wheels out closer to the fenders edge, higher offsets tuck the wheel in further. If you are wanting to go with a wide tire I would recommend choosing an offset somewhere in the middle of these recommendations. If you go extremely wide I'd go with a lower offset but you may need to go some fender work.

Hope this helps you get started. Anytime to push the limits its best to bust out the tape measure and start measuring. (That may be a little hard for you with your current location though- Thank you for what you do. )

Width --------- offset ranges
8.0 ---------- +24/+65
8.5 ---------- +30/+65
9.0 ---------- +37/+65
9.5 ---------- +43/+65
10.0 ---------- +49/+60

With the correct wheel width and offset my guide says you can run a 305's and keep them in the fenders. If you are up for rolling fenders you may be able to go a little wider than that.
