TIRE RACK- Is this a good place to purchase tires?
I'm trying to get 285/75/R16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T REvos. Every Firestone dealer here including the ones on and off base don't seem to want to order them. I tried Sams they don't sell Bridgestone tires and Costco can't get them. This is a very hard tire to buy.
Is it worth paying the shipping? Anyone know how the 50,000 mile warranty with the REVOS would come in effect if you have to replace them earlier than expected?
I just bought a set of REVO's a couple of months ago and had a little difficulty in locating them through a retailer. TireRack was my first choice, but then when I saw the price of shipping to my home in Texas, I decided to pursue the retail route again. Costco couldn't get them, Discount doesn't carry Bridgestone, so I ended up at Firestone. They turned out to be the best deal. I notice you're in Hawaii and can't understand why Firestone "doesn't seem to want to order them", as you say. I'd contact a Firestone regional manager or complain through their website for assistance.
I have no experience with Bridgestone warranties, as these are my first Bridgestones, so I can't answer you question regarding the warranty. Hope you end up getting these tires, because they're certainly everything as advertised and wholeheartedly endorsed by owners as well. Good luck.
I had a fantastic experience with them, buying goodyear wrangler MT/Rs. The cheapest price I found in the state of Colorado (where I live most of the time) was 1050, and the best price in Cali 950. I bought the tires, including shipping, for 810. I was amazed.

Pay shipping to Hawaii for tires?...forget it. No tires are that good.
You can stop into any Bridgestone-Firestone dealer and read a copy of the warranty. Generally they pay full replacement for a short time, then pro-rate how much they'll pay for a new tire by the amount of miles vs. the depth of the rubber. This pro-rating is usually based on the full suggested retail price of the tires, so it usually isn't a significant savings over just buying a tire at the best price you can find.

Does tire rack offer free lifetime rotate and balance like most shops do? If not the amount saved may not pay for your rotate and balance over the life of the tire.

Over about a twenty year span I have bought a pile of tires from the tire rack.
In the last few years I have bought none. They are no longer competative for most truck tires when one figures balancing, mounting and shipping. It does seem that they are still a good place for smaller sized tires, but generally the extras that you pay for locally kill any savings. Odd sizes and street tires or high performance tires they are still perhaps a good deal, but truck tires no way.
Agreed, many other shops have gotten much more competitive and reduced Tirerack's advantage. Locally, Discount Tire/America's Tire, Sears, Big-O, Wal*Mart, and Costco have prices that shows they really want business.

well, I'm only interested in the tires not the mounting and balancing. Its really hard to find the Bridgestone Revos here they would be on back order for two months and if I bought it from tire rack it would take three days to get here
wondering if they would honor the 50,000 miles warranty on the tires and how would they go about doing it?

Go to this website for warranty details. I tried linking you to the direct page, but it'll only allow me to post the main website link. You can find the warranty info from there...just start with selecting the REVO and take it from there. http://www.bridgestonetire.com/dpp/
Thanks EZ, I checked it.
If I buy from tirerack. If the tires wear out before 50,000 miles. I gonna have to send it back to tirerack right and that will be a hassle but they have it on stock and it would be here in three days tops shipping is like $147.
I checked Sams they don't have Bridgestone, Costco said they can't get it right now call everyday cause status changes but I know its on back order; it'll be forever.
Firestone on Hickam AFB told me to pay whole thing up front and wait two months but they didn't want to order it the way they sounded cause 285/75/R16 doesn't sell too much there; plus, its on sale their too??
Checked with Firestone at Ft. Shafter they gave me the run around and suggested a different tire. Revos on sale there and they don't have it ???
Kaneohe Marine Base told me they had it in stock drove there, made an appointment and they said they only had the regular ones. I clearly specified REVOS. They said they can order it should take up to a month or two @ $175 + tax= one tire.....Its been mind boggling.
What should I do? Should I just go with the BF Goodrich from Costco or tire rack and stay with the REvos?

The REVOs are nice tires, I've got a set. I don't know that they're particularly worth jumping through a lot of hoops to get though. With all that volcanic rock, if you're going to go offroad at all I think that I'd look at the BFGs or Michelin's if you can get them. Actually, I don't think Michelin's will come in that size - they're more "normal" sized.
The REVOs have wonderful traction, however, I don't think you have the weather that's really going to bring out the best in them. There are two places they really do well - rain/snow and when you can drive 80 or 90 mph on the highway. They actually are probably one of the quietest tires I've ever been on (and I don't just mean AT tires) between 90 and 100 mph. They are slightly noisier than the OEM tires as slower speeds though. You get the rain, but it's heavy. Not the misting stuff.
The normal ATs will be just as nice for your practically ideal weather. It's like running oil there. You can run just about anything and works fine.
That volcanic stuff is sharp as hell - especially on the "new islands". I can barely walk on it in some places. I think I'd try to use the hardest tire I could find, that is, if you intend to go offroad. That's BFG or Michelin but neither are cheap. The revos are quieter and nice riding then either of those though and they are even a little less costly.

You mentioned military bases, so I'm assuming you're military. If you have to wait a couple of months to get the REVO's through the PX at a decent price, I'd be patient and go that route. Based on what you've said so far, it sounds like TireRack would be your second option. If you don't plan on doing any offroading or punishing driving, I wouldn't worry about the warranty on mileage, as well maintained tires today hold up pretty well.
If you get totally frustrated with all this, I will say that alot people here seem to like the BFG All Terrain and the Michelin.
BTW, somebody else in another thread early this morning, asked me to post pics of my REVO's. Look in my photos if you want to check them out.
Hang in there, man.....you'll get your tires....life in Paradise (Hawaii) is rough, isn't it?
