This is a discussion thread titled "Robby Gordon Simulated Bead Lock", within the Tires and Wheels forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I am leaning towards the Robby Gordon "StreetLock" 17x8 wheel which is a simulated street version of their racing bead lock. I notice that a few members either have these or are considering them, and I have a couple of questions I hope one of you can answer.
Are the simulated bead lock rings removable? I am interested in color matching the ring either by annodizing or painting it the same color as my truck.
Can the wheels be ordered from Robby Gordon Off-Road with the rings already annodized to one of the standard red/blue/black colors?
Are center bore caps available? I have looked at the pictures in tpgn00's photo gallery and it appears his are mounted without any caps.
What is your general impression of the quality of the wheel. For $300 a wheel, I would expect the quality to be very good.
The Axis Warlock is an alternative, but it is only available in a 17x10 which may be too wide for 285 tires. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.
I have them and I love them. Not sure if the ring is removable, I've never tried to remove it.
Not sure if they can be color matched. The regular bead locks can so I assume the street locks can as well. Call Roger at Robby Gordon Off-road: 714-632-0166
Sorry no center cap available. It won't fit on our trucks.
Overall I love the wheels, I get people looking at them all the time. The quality is really good. They have held up through the winter here in Colorado. i must say though they aren't as shiny as when I bought them. The mag choloride has done a number on them. But hey I didn't buy my truck, lift, and wheels so that it can be babied. And I certainly didn't buy the wheels for the bling bling factor.
One more item I might note, which may or may not change your opinion of them. When you mount them you will have to have the outside of the brake caliper ground down a little bit to make them fit. It doesn't affect the performance of the caliper at all, but it needs to be down so that they will fit.

i had a chance to see this on shawn miller's truck. it doesnt look like a huge deal, but it is absolutely necessary. someone else recently ordered a set of these and encountered this, jjc maybe?
Thanks guys for the info. Tpgn00, I seem to be following in your foot steps. I have TC arms and Donahoe coilovers on the way, I have settled on the BFG All-Terrains, and was looking for a good wheel to go with them when I saw a truck on TV with the Robby Gordon's and I liked the looks of them -- they seem to have the right amount of brawn mixed with a touch of class. Anyway, I am not intentionally copying you -- we just happen to have exceptionally good taste and appreciate quality products.
The clearance on the calipers is not particuarly welcomed news because I was thinking of eventually upgrading to the TRD big brake package. However, I don't really need those so the RG's would be ok. It is just that I have a big deep bed on my truck and I wanted to see how much money I could shovel into it -- if you know what I mean.

That's too funny cause my next mod I think will be the tc arms. Good taste indeed! If you have any more questions Roger at Robby's shop should help you out. He was very helpful when they installed my donahoe coilovers and wheels. I even plan to drive my truck out there hopefully in the near future and have them install the tc arms and have them do some other work.
Heck, twist off and get you a set of Walker Evans fully polished beadlocks and you'll be styl'in on the ol' Tundrasolutions web site...
Actually, those were my favorites, but I am not sure about running real bead locks on the street. Although I do intend to do some off roading, my truck will be more of a looker than a doer (sad to say).

Well those walkers are coming out with a BeadLOOK soon, still in the process of being DOT approved but they are designing them. The beadlocks are pretty heavy so hopefully this model will lighten the load.

Thanks, that's good news and I will check into it.

Go with the Walker Evans, sweet with custom backspacing. If I had been thinking I would have gotten them, unfortunately, I wasn't thinking and my kitchen credit card pass has expired. I managed to snag the Donahoe's, but anyone want to buy some Eagle 187's with Nitto's on them so I can get some WE rims with BFG's?
