Default 33 x 12.5 Tires on a stock Tundra 4x4 with TRD

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to see if this is doable on a 4x4 Tundra that hasn't been lifted? Would it look good or should I go with 35's and lift it? Do they make 33 x 12.5 with 18 in rims thats still a capable off road tire, (I really like the look of Toyo Tires). If the rims are deep set that makes a difference right? I just don't like how the stock 265/70's look on my 2002 Tundra 4x4 Access Cab with TRD Offroad package (The fenders stick out too far in the rear).

Thanks,

Rudedawg

Nope. That is way too big a tire to fit on a stock Tundra. Its too tall and too wide. You would need atleast 4" of lift I would say to clear that big a tire with the size being 33x12.5x16.5. As far as what you said about an 18 inch rim. Make a decision do you want the low rider style or the offroad style? 17 is about as big I would go for offroading. The more rim you have the more chance of bending or breaking it.

and you cant run a lower PSI in the tires ..meaning less surface area on the tire..it really is black and white..

i assume that you like offroading since you bought a 4x4 with TRD pkg..

so id say run a 285/70/17 maybe..or if you want the offroad look....a 285/75/16

with lift you could pull off 305/70/16 no prob

Whoa...305s with no lift!? And I thought I was nuts for thinking of 295 on stock height. I would get 305s only if I had at least some kinda lift. But, I am still gonna try the 285s on stock height once I get the dough, I wouldn't advise doing it though cuz it might be risky and pushin it though.

Hehehe,

Shows you what I know about the subject. I thought the 33 was equivalent in height to a 265/70 with the other number just being 2 inches wider than stock. I thought a 265/70 was roughly equivalent to a 33 x 10.5 (25 mm per inch equals 10.6 inches). So.... I thought I was just increasing the width of the tire by 2 inches. Yes, I want to keep the Offroad look so I will stick with 17 inch rims as you suggest. My original 265/70's have almost 40K on them and I'd like to upgrade when their out.

As for doing a Lift, what's a good brand for a Kit or recommendation? I'm totally clueless on how much lift I would need and how much that would run. Is Daystar good?

Appreciate the responses,

Rudedawg

Rudedawg, there are many lift options to chose from today. the first thing you need to decide is what direction you want to go. Spacer lifts are the least expensive way, but the coilovers are a better ride and overall performance. I would suggest that you start looking at past posts on lifts and how people rated there performance. There have been hundreds of posts on the subject as well as the offroad FAQ that Sean (DevinSixtySeven) has put together HERE I hope this helps!!!

The 265/70 R17 is considered a 32. It's the same height as a 265/75 R16. You'd have to get a 285/70 to have roughly a 33 on a 17 inch rim.

You could run 33x12.5 on a 16.5 rim with a 2.5 inch lift. You'll have to trim the wheelwells a bit. I have a few pics in the gallery if you want to see what it looks like.

With my Tundra 4X4 will 33X12.50X15 fit with a toytec lift 2.5 in the front and 1" in the rear? Will it rub or look good?

you aren't gonna get a 33x12.5" wide tire on a stock wheel to work, lift or not. You'd be lucky to even get the wheel on without hitting the UCA. go with 285/70r17 or 285/75r16 if you want 33s (you'll need at least 2" of lift) or 265/70r17 or 265/75r16 if you want 32s (no lift is required.

listen, this is how you figure out actual tire size. if you have a 265/75/16, the 265 is the distance across the treads, the 70 is the height of the sidewall, its 70% of 265, and obviously the 16 is the rim size. 265 divided by 25.4 is 10.43, which means the tire width is almost 10.5 inches across the treads. for the sidewall take 265 times .70 equals 198.75mm. 198.75 divided by 25.4 equals 7.82, which means the sidewall is a hair bigger than 7 3/4 inches.
the 265/70/16 is equivilant to a 31.5/10.5/16 tire. hope that helps

My 265/75/16's rub the inner fender with a 1.25 daystar leveling spacer. of course its on a 16x8 wheel with a 1.25" wheel adapter/spacer. No way I could clear 285's, much less a 305. Stock wheel spacing makes it rub the UCA, more offset makes it rub the fenders. Gotta lift it to fit bigger tires.
