I am an owner of a 2005 Tundra Texas Edition double cab which came with 20 inch tires and rims(port installed option). I have had nothing but problems with them. After about 800 miles the truck started pulling to the right and shaking through the steering wheel. The first time I had brought it into Gullo Toyota for a wheel alignment, the technician said he had adjusted the truck to specification. I drove it for about a day and soon discovered the truck was doing the same as before. Gullo’s technician told me that they have had problems in the past dealing with Tundra’s with 20 inch rims and tires. The next step was to take factory rims and tires and test drive; they took it for a test drive and they told me the truck drove prefect.
When I brought back the truck to Gullo a couple of days later, they told me that they were going to replace the tires due to excessive road force on the tires. The next trip back to Gullo is when they replaced three of the four tires; well this did not correct the vibration or the shaking and now everyday the shaking and vibration is getting progressively worse. I also have taken the truck to 2 different tire shops and had them Road force tested and balanced, and no one seems to have an answer.
it would be hard to nail down the cause based on the info given. I would however think that if the truck drove and handled properly with the stock wheel and tire setup, and the problem was still there after the tires were replaced on your wheels, then logically the problem is with the wheels themselves. I would suggest that if they cannot get these wheels right, then how about a different wheel.

Get DJ's alignment specs and have the dealership align to his specs. The toyot specs are quite broad and DJ's specs will narrow it down so the truck will drive like it should.
If you still have problems after that then have them Road Force Balance the wheels and tires.
I have an 04 Tundra TX Edition with 20" wheels that was doing the same thing. I checked Tundra recalls and the ball joints were under recall. Took it to the local dealership and they corrected it with no problem. Truck runs perfect now...
FYI - I have 20" after market rims I run on my 2006 DC with no issues, granted the ride is a little stiffer than the OEM rims. Likewise I ran the same rims for several years on my 2001 AC without issue.
I just purchased a 2006 SR5 Double Cab Texas Edition with the Toyota 20" rims and Toyo tires 265/50/R20. In addition to riding very stiff, the truck road walks all over the road at highway speeds. It can be pretty scary at 70MPH. Could it be the ball joint issue described in an earlier post? Anybody else have this problem?

I have had the ball joint recall performed on my truck and I still experience the same wandering if the road surface is uneven or rough at higher speeds.
My suspicion is that its the tires and not the wheels, I am replacing the Kumho's that were on mine when I bought the wheels with Yokohama Parada Spec-X tires this week, I'll post back afterwards with the results.

No answers here. I have an 06 Tx Ed with the factory 20s and Toyo Prox. They have been terrible since about 5,000 miles. They are horribly loud at low speeds and have worn poorly as well. I really need to replace them but have been unable to decide on a replacement. Any input is appreciated.
Looking at the same 265-50-20 or maybe 275-55-20 if it is a direct fit.
So I got my new Yokohama Parada Spec-X tires installed today (285/50/20) and I'm quite pleased. Very quiet, smooth ride (just a teeny bit stiffer than with the OEM wheels), solid grip on the road, and best of all no road wandering on the highway! Now I can drive down the highway again with one hand on the wheel.
Overall, a big improvement over the Kumho Ecsta STX tires I had before, though I will say in tight corners the Kumho's made the truck feel like it was on rails, the Parada's feel really good in corners, but not quite as locked in as the Kumho's. Could be in part that the Kumhos were 295/45/20, so a slightly lower and wider stance).
No rub at full wheel lock, and with the bigger footprint they look awesome! Will post some pics tomorrow.
So 285-50-20s huh? I was looking at 275-55-20s. Do you know how they relate in size. I am more familiar with the standard system like 32-11.5-16 etc. If they won't rub and don't require any mods, I may be in.
the texas edition rim made by prime is a 20 x 8 1/2"
do you know how wide you can go on a rim that size?

CVIATOR - Well, 275/55/20 in the spec-x tires translates to an outer diameter of 31.9", which means it will not work without modifications.
JAYMZ11 - My 20" rims are 8.5" in width as well, and 285 is as wide as I would go, if you look on tire rack at the spec's section for the tire your interested in there is a column that indicates the range of rim widths it covers.
thanks bro
been waiting to hear an answer on this one.
looking at the hankook ventus

I've got 295/45/20 yoko paradas on my truck and I had the dealer balance them twice when I bought it. Also, had the ball joint recall done and it still does some weird stuff here and there. I keep thinking it's the BBS wheels or the tire size they installed- I bought the truck used with new tires on it.
