    Default Finnaly got my Tires!!

Hey all my tundra loving friends... I finnaly saved up the cash and bought new wheels and tires to go with my 2 1/2' lift. I got them for $1000 out the door, I think I did pretty good. I was wondering about my speedo, is there a way to calibrate it for the new tire size. I'm going to call the toyota dealer today but wanted to ask you guys first.

I'll post some pictures when I get my truck back today. Hope they don't rub to bad.

What kind of tires did you get and in what size? I used a Dakota Digital device to recalibrate my speedo when I got new gears/tires. It is much cheaper than the Superlift device and does the exact same thing. It is a bit more confusing to figure out, but it wasn't bad.

The dealership won't be able to calibrate it to anything but the stock configuration (I asked too). Since it is computer controlled, the only way to fix it is with some sort of electronic device. There won't be any speedo gears to change out.

If you recalibrate the speedometer alone, the odometer will show the right miles driven then, right?

Actually, I don't really know. I don't think the two are connected even though they are in the same cluster. The reason I say this is if you tow you vehicle in neutral with the car off, the speedo won't record speed, but the odometer will still count miles.....I think. Is that right?

I don't know honestly, hopefully someone can help us out. You would think that once you recalibrate the speedometer, the odometer will record the correct miles driven then too. I went from stock 265/70/16 tires to 285/55/20 tires and so the miles recorded everytime I fill up the tank is much lower then what it used to be with the stock size tires. So thats my question, if we recalibrate the speedometer alone, will the odometer record the correct miles driven or do I have to take it to a professional to recalibrate everything?

Good choice on tires. Those are made by Cooper and are similar to the Cooper A/T. I love my Cooper S/T's so far.

I did a test on a recent trip to see if the odometer would be fixed with a speedo change. I used my GPS to track my mileage on a highway trip and compared it to what my odometer said. My speedo was dead on, but the odometer and the GPS were off when I arrived at my destination.

I did some math and it turns out that the mileage was off by the EXACT amount as the math conversion we used in this thread to figure out true mileage.

I went 54.3 miles according to my odometer, but the GPS said I went 56.1 miles. If you take my tire size 31.6" and divide it by my old tire size 30.6" you get 1.03267.... If you multiply that by what I got on my odometer, 54.3 miles, you get 56.07... which is exactly what the GPS said I got.

    Hope this helps someone out!

Thanks for the tip! So, how can we get the odometer to display the correct miles driven then?

I don't think it is legal to adjust the odometer any at all. If you could adjust it, people would be turning it back and stuff. Look at it this way, you are actually going further than your odometer is reading. This makes your warranty last longer

Yeah, it'll work. I used this: http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...rod/prd126.htm and it was much cheaper. I just had to supply my own wires.
