Tires and WheelsDiscussions and experienced advice about tires, wheels, traction control, proper balancing, improving tire life and more.
This is a discussion thread titled "~33 in. "beefy" tires for 17" stock yota rim?", within the Tires and Wheels forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Here is how the BFG 285/70/17 look on the stock 17" wheels. On this Picture I have the Teamwest Camburg Coilovers, not cranked all the way with the Deaver 11 pack.
I now have shiny silver marks where the tires rubbed on the frame
what about a LT275/70R17? Goodyear has a Wrangler MT/R that looks nice... Gets good reviews, too... Plus I could do those for $880.
I was goint to mention the 275/70/17 Goodyear MT/R but you asked of peoples opinion on the BFG's, so I wasn't sure if you were solid on using the BFG's. I have Goodyear ATS and love them but they are in a 285/75/16 size. So many choices, so little time.

so do you think the LT275/70R17 MT/R would be a good choice? no rub?
I'm not exclusive to BFG... I would just lean towards them because I've always had great experiences with their tires... But if Goodyear makes the tire that I need, then it's a no-brainer.

Well I always liked the look/tread of the Goodyear Wranglers and my family has gotten good mileage out of them for this I chose them as my first replacement tires on my Tundra.
As far as rubbing I cant say for sure but on paper 275/70/17 is a 1/2 inch shorter than the 285/70/17 that people are complaining are rubbing.
Goodluck

The 275's and actually not as tall as the 265/75's They are a little wider- you can see size comparisons on any tire size converter that they have on many websites- just do a search on the net for "tire size converter" and you can find one. I got the TRD as well but wanted 17" rims- i opted for the stock 16's so that I could replace them with new wheels which would work for my 285's. Got some MT II's for just over a hundred each. Sorry to say it, but your choices are- wheel spacer with 285's, rubbing with 285's, new wheels with 285's, 265/75's which won't rub but won't fill up well as much. Good luck

Those fit without rub on OEM wheels..... get the 285s and a 1.25" wheel spacer and call it a day. You will be much happier that with 265s. I have 265s (look in my gallery) and they look OK, but 285s would be the cat's pajamas
