This is a discussion thread titled "~33 in. "beefy" tires for 17" stock yota rim?", within the Tires and Wheels forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Well, I've got my 2005 Double Cab 4x4 TRD... It had the 16" rims on it, but I had the dealer swap me out to the 17" rims because I like them a LOT better. Problem is that the stock tires are street tires. I put a 2.5" coilspacer and an AAL in the rear to give the better "look" I was going for. Love the truck... But it's time to get some better meat under there. Probably looking at something along the lines of a BFGoodrich AllTerrain TA/KO (or something along that style, maybe a different brand)... Does anyone know of a cost-effective tire in a suitable size? I need a 17", between 32-33". I was recommended a particular LT size, but it came to over $1000 for all 4... I'd rather not spend THAT much...

I wouldnt say that they are too much off. I saw $190 a pop times 4 tires + $75 (my guess for installation/balance). Brings your total up to $825 just my guess on a quote. Quote on 285x70x17 BFG All terrains at www.philiptires.com.

Thanks for the link... $825 is certainly less than the initial quote, which was just over $1000. I'd certainly be interested in saving $200.

That combo does look very nice. Do you have anything in the way of lift for the vehicle?
Since you're talking about a Double Cab here, PLEASE keep this in mind!!! Using "stock" wheels with 33" tires (i.e. 285/75/17), basically "isn't" a good idea! You will have significant rubbing issues! In most cases, where a TS.com member has opted for 33" tires, EVERYONE has had to purchase NEW WHEELS, with more back spacing to allow for these clearance issues! Having to incure that "extra" pruchase PLUS... new tires... is exactly "why" I'm not going with a tire that large!

Thank you for the advice... I don't have a great picture to show it, but this may give you an idea how small these tires look!
If 33's are too large, then is there a size bigger than what I have now that would fill out the wells better, but not rub? I made an extra effort to get the dealer to throw in these particular rims, so getting new ones are not an option

You could run a small wheel spacer. This would give you more backspacing. As long as you do not offroad they should be good. I know a couple of people that beat the crap out of their trucks and run wheel spacers. I know a lot of people do not like them.

Well, I do go off the pavement, but it could probably considered very "mild". Mostly just to get to my final destination off-road. Quick pic:

I couldn't agree with you more, as I too, am in this same boat with you.

Well, you have a couple of choices here. You can use either 265/75/17's or 265/70/17's. Either will work just fine, without any rubbing issues with your spacer lift. You can also use something like a 255/85/17 (I "think" that's right), it's a taller tire, but quite narrow. Some folks call them... pizza cutters. Truth is though, I wouldn't recommend them anyway.
As far as wheel spacers or wheel adapters go... well... IMHO, let just say, I can't "safely" recommend, that you use those!
As for my own DC, I'm going to use the 265/75/16's. They seem to "FILL-UP" the wheel well quite nicely.
btw: Check out THIS LINK, if you have any questions regarding actual "size comparisons". I found this rather helpful.

The front is lifted 4" with DRE coilovers. The back does not have any lift.
hmm, I do not believe that those tires would fit for me, then. I have about 2" of lift with teh coilspacer... There is an AAL in the back. I think stock size is 31", is it not? Perhaps I'll go with a 32"?? It just seems like there'd be plenty of room for 2 more inches of rubber (one on each side)... odd.
