I have lost about 1 mpg with this tires. Between them being taller and heavier it doesn't help. Gears would be nice to help even things out but that is further down the road.

It's help for crawling off-road and puts less overall stress on the drivetrain. You know when on rocks....not just mud puddles.

Gawd you guys crack me up ...I wanna throw a chair or something .

I did plenty with stock gears and 315/75/16, but you lose the fine control you had with the lower final ratio. You'll notice most if you have a lot of long, steep grades to climb...in CO I'd rather be overgeared, 4.88 and 35" is about perfect here, and I think RockyMtnRay uses 4.10 or 4.30 with stock diameter tires for the same reason.

Y'all may not remember but 255/85/16 BFG MTs is what Joe used to crawl all over Moab back in the day, with pretty much stock travel, 4.56 gears, and dual ARBs.

If you need an offroad-specific tire, the LTB comes in a 34x10.5...

Yeah we don't see eye to eye on much

And yes i do remember reading old posts with Joe running that tire size. I have a tiny lift now and these tires did a great job aired down on my last trip. But with with my sliders and the skids that are being made next week it will be all the better.

And you're right you don't need gears, but it does make it easier to crawl over things. And up here where I wheel in Rausch Creek it is all wooded trails full of rocks and logs. When my truck was up against something it just puts a lot on the trans as I slowly gas up it....so having a lower final gear drive would be nice. And I don't have 1200 bucks for a crawler box

My crawler box fund keeps getting cashed in for tooling .

4.56 and 255/85/16 is overgeared similar to 4.88 and 315/75/16...you really notice when it's time to sneak down a rocky, rutted line with ledges in all the wrong places.

BTW Moose I was gonna suggest you wrap those triangulated supports on your sliders down to the lateral supports...same material should work, and use an angle grinder for the curve if you don't have a hole saw handy. You could probably do it with a hole saw, if you use a center punch and a small pilot hole, if it's not quite right the grinder will do for cleanup. Anything to close up that gap and put a little more weld around the tube.

In general, tires with 80%-90% aspect ratio seem to get the job done best in most conditions on and offroad...

Yeah I was a little worried about that support tube. They are good welds but that empty stop does make for a great potential weak point. I'll see what i can do with that.

If I had the extra cash right now I would look into 4.56 gears. They can be had for not too much money with is nice. Trying to find 4.30 gears is hardly worth it especially considering the added bit of control I would gain from the 4.56 gears off-road.

I will be going to TTORA NE takeover at the end of July so hopefully I'll give these sliders a work out. Only thing I am worried about now is the rear bumper

Tall and thin would seem to be good for fuel economy.........but several posters on this thread have said otherwise.

Anyone here have any luck with better fuel economy from a tire size change alone?
