Default Toyo Open Country M/T's

Hi,

I have a 2000 tundra 4x4 access cab and I recently bought some Toyo open country M/T's. They are 265/75r16

The manual says tires should be run at 26 front and 29 rear Psi.

What psi should I run these tires at?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have the Open Country A/T six ply tire and keep all four inflated to 40 lbs. If your tires are 4 ply they will require less. The tire shop told me to run them between 40-45 but the ride is too stiff at 45. Hope that helps.

That might be right, I have no experience with a ten ply but it makes sense because the more plys the tire has the more air they need. Hopefully someone else will chime in who knows more about this than I do.

How do you like your Open Country A/T's? Thinking of getting a set of those and heard they are good...soft ride, low highway noise, good grip. Would you buy them again?

Wow! Those are some high inflation numbers! I'm running my Toyo M/T's at 30psi front and 28psi rear. They are wearing quite nicely after 6,300 miles. Too much air and you'll be riding in the center of the tire and wearing it out. Too little and the edges will go first. There is a "chalk" test you can do by rubbing chalk all over the tread surface on one tire and driving straight ahead on a smooth, flat surface to see exactly how much of your tire is making contact. Then you adjust the air pressure accordingly.

I believe there is also a rule of thumb about the rating of your tires compared to the truck weight. Sorry I don't have the exact info on that. However, in my case I have weighed my truck on a public scale and it comes in at 5,300 lbs give or take 20lbs.

I plan on buying this tire until something better comes out. What I do is run them to about 50% then the Toyo dealer trades me for a new set at about 50% off. That way I always run on good tires.

Hey Herbicidal, are your tires 4 or 6 ply? This makes a big difference in inflation. I am running 40 PSI with 6 ply, 4 ply need less air pressure.

My toyo's are 10 ply and I'm running them at 44psi all around.

Mine are 265/755/16 and the max is 80 psi

Your larger m/t's are rated for a max of 60 psi

not sure if that makes the difference

I just checked the sidewall and they are 10 ply, 65psi max inflation. That's interesting about the 50% deal...
