This is a discussion thread titled "Wrangler Silent Armor 275/70/17", within the Tires and Wheels forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Anyone have any feedback about this setup (Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor 275/70/17)? I have searched the threads and only the tacos have comments about Silent Armor. And very little info about 275s.
I have a 05 2wd DC nonTRD. I don't off-road (I do tow), but want a more aggressive stance (going to add Toytec/Donahoe/Revtek/etc for leveling).
I'm set on the 17s (Eagle 137). I'm pretty sure 285s is more than I want so I'm left with (the very common) 265/70/17. My issues is that I currently have (stock) 265/65/17 and to pay all that money to go from 65 to 70 bugs me.
Again, I just want a slightly more aggressive look. Someone set me straight.
p.s. I feel BFGs will be too aggressive for my purposes.
I have the goodyear silent armor 285/60r18. There is a picture of my truck on centerlinewheels.com The only difference now is that the truck has since been leveled with King coilovers. The tires are great. Next time I think I may get Nitto TG. If you think BFG's are too much, try Toyo Open Country
A/T. I hear they are good tires, and have a good (not too aggressive) tread. I think they are a little pricey though.
I have toyo open country a/t's (265/75/16) and I love them. They can get a little loud, but none the less a great tire. Try treadepot.com, I got my tires for 489 shipped to my house.
Hi, I just stumbled across the idea of a 275/70 17 Wrangler SA to replace the standard 265/65 17s on my 06 Seq, did a TS serach and found this thread.... These tires would move the diameter up from 30.56 to 32.15 - bout an inch and a half which sounds very attractive to me also. Did you do it? Will this size fit without a lift? How are the SA's working out?
The Wrangler Silent Armor tires are rated pretty high on Tirerack. They are ranked second in their category. Price is kind of steep at $175 each (plus shipping) though. The following address shows the ratings: Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor
A better bet might be the Firestone Destination A/T which is also available in the 275 size but is ranked much higher in the "Would you buy again" category which is the category that I pay attention to. They go for around $150 but I have seen them for as low as $135 each.
I got the 275/70/17 with a toytec aal + spacer lift to level it out. they're great tires. they are indeed expensive, they cost more than the wheels (eagle #137).
i have never had tires with lots of tread, so i can't comment about their volume relative to say, bfg -- however, i didn't notice any increase in noise from the factory donuts.
