This is a discussion thread titled "Nitto's !NEW! Dune Grappler Tire", within the Tires and Wheels forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Just got a set of these in 285/45/22. The flames dont really even carry over onto the sidewall. I think this may be because of the lower profile though. The road noise from these bad boys is practically nothing. I am extremely impressed so far with them although I have only had them on for a day! I couldnt be any happier though with them.
I was thinking of getting some 285/55-20's in BF Goodrich then saw these Dune Grapplers. Man they looks awesome in person! My main concern is winter driving. The BFG's have teh mountain/snowflake severe weather symbol and they do great in the snow. How do you think these will do? It'll go on my 2007 Yukon and I have 5 kids so safety is my main concern.
I bought a set of 33/12.50-20 Toyo M/T's and although they look great on the truck, they are so wide that everything gets kicked up the side of the truck.
My buddy has the Dune Grappler tire in a 285/55/20 size, and they look o.k. Not the best look, I like my toyos better, but not bad for something different.

I thought about buying the Dune Grappler tires, but I had two separate tire companies tell me that they are good for loose dirt/offroad and terrible in the rain. I decided to go with the Terra Grapplers and have been happy so far.
any actual info on how they react in the rain . . . no grip, hydroplane? ? ?
Compare their tread pattern to the pattern and siping on a wet/icy weather tire. Wet conditions need channeling, cutting, and siping on a tire for good grip. Most "offroad" tires (by design or looks only) don't have any of those things.
Nokian is a good tire to compare against anything else for wet/ice traction.
