Tires and WheelsDiscussions and experienced advice about tires, wheels, traction control, proper balancing, improving tire life and more.
This is a discussion thread titled "Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor", within the Tires and Wheels forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Hey, anyone have any experience with these tires? They have pretty good reviews. I currently have Mich LTX's in 265/70-16, but will be getting new wheels soon, so I will likely sell my exist package to my dad. While I really like the LTX's, particulary the Michelin ride, I would like something more aggressive, particulary in snow. I also have had experience w/ Cooper Discoverer's. Those are not bad either, especially for $. Just a little loose feeling.
Any comments, pics of your truck w/ these GY's? Comparisons to LTX M/S?

A buddy of mine ran those, great solid tire, no complains other than road noise which is a given. Never left him stuck. I went with Wrangler MTR's step up from those had no trouble with them put on a hefty amount of kms. MTR's look nicer but to save the money go with silent armours!

for the feedback. Since my initial post I have read many reviews stating that people saw large drops in fuel econonmy w/ these SA's.
And since I am also looking for a quiet tire, I will likely look elsewhere.

Came across this post somehow, Well I got my Mom these tires for her F-150 Lariat since she needed new tires.
255/70/16s stock size for the Lariat.
They look good. A bit stiff ( harder rubber compound ) but overall they are rated 9 and 10's on the scale of effectiveness. The Goodyear Website as far as functionality goes rates them the best up there with the Triple Treads.
Geez they use Kevlar , they cant be too bad for road noise. and maybe might save you from a flat. Try to Cut Kevlar, its pretty D@mn difficult.

Well my 2001 Tundra was ready for some new shoes. My BFG AT's were pretty bare. I almost had the BFG's put on my truck again in the last few minutes I switched and purchased the Goodyear Silient Armor AT's.
96% of my driving in on the street or highway. Side by side the Goodyear's seem to look slightly more road friendly than the BFG's . Both still pretty aggressive. Both tires are stamped with AT logo so no chains required with either tires at most chain stations in the winter. Water escape routes looked superior on the goodyears' to reduce water plaining. Both tires have nice square look to them. The Goodyears are rated 10,000 miles longer than the BFG's.
I have read some other reviews and people seem to complain about the feel going around turns fast. Let you know as soon as I have a little time behind them.
PS: I used Michellan MTX's twice on my old truck, not on my Tundra, great tire too.

I'm quite certain that you won't get a mileage drop unless you go with one of the heavier number of plies...they make them from a 4ply to a 10 ply. Unless you're doing any heavy hauling, the 4 ply will be more than adequate. I have not experienced a drop in gas mileage.
