I have a 2000 tacoma 3.4L V6 4x4 with an automatic tranny and the off-road package. My question is can this truck haul a 3,500 lb. cargo trailer full of construction material every day? I'm not worried about the weight limit because the trailer is a 5x8. I'm not going to over load it and the truck it rated at a 5,000 lb tow. I'm mainly worried about the wear and tear on the truck. It has close to 100,000 miles on it right now, but it runs great. Has anybody towed day in and day out with a high mileage tacoma before? How does the truck perform and last? I just paid the truck off and I'm really happy with it so I don't want to sell it. I'd be grateful for any insight or suggestions. Thanks.
I don't think you will have any problem. The 3.4 is known to be a pretty bullet proof engine, similer to the old 22re 4 banger. I used to tow about 3,000 + lbs in my 90 4runner with the 3.0 V6 at 230,000 + miles on it and the 3.0 was known to be somewhat problematic by Toyota's standards. I doubt you will have any trouble with that weight from you engine. The only thing I would worry about is the tranny. You do have the tow package or a good tranny cooler though right?

Great advice. I don't have the tow package or a transmission cooler. I am researching it right now. Any advice about the trans coolers? It sounds like the right thing to do.
you shoule be ok. my father in law tows often with his 96 T100. he tows a 3500 lb boat on weekends to the lake and on the days he work, he tows a small trailer with supplies. he has 175+K on his truck. only thing he had to do was install a tranny cooler.

Contact these folks: IPT Performance Transmissions. I've got one on my Tundra. However I can't remember the model number, it might have been the 4490. I don't think I spent over $80 for it. Oh, it's also a good idea to pick up an in-line tranny oil filter from them for another $19. I see they also have an Autometer tranny temp gauge and sending unit. Looks like one stop shopping to me!
