Default P3 Error - Please Help

I'm leaving for a 2500 mile camping trip in the morning. I noticed that my P3 says "output shorted no brakes" . Does anyone know what can cause this???? I read the manual and I'm still clueless. Thanks for the help!

Not good, this worries me a bit so please keep us posted, I too have the P3.

Tekonsha's number is 1-800-STOP-YOU

I'd try them right after you check all your connections and fuses...
Sounds like it could be a fuse...

good luck

Tekonsha was no help they say it just means that there is a short in the blue wire. I re-wired everything without the plug and play harness that I bought and it was the same error. I checked all of the fuses under the hood,..... except thos big giant blocky ones... becaue I do not know how to. ..... I'm running out to buy a Prodigy right now.... since I can't buy a P3 in my area..... I had mail ordered mine. if the prodigy plugs in and works.... then I have a faulty P3.

Do the brakes work on the trailer. It's a easy test by just activating ONLY the trailer brakes at the controller and try moving the truck. If they work go have a good camping trip.

One other thing to check is...make sure the connector at the back of the truck is clean...

Was this error with the trailer hooked up? I'd guess that the error is being caused by wiring on the trailer..

The error happened while the truck was hooked up and when it wasn't. A tester showed no electric brakes when I touched it to the 7 pin harness on the rear of truck. The P3 is broken..... unfortunately..... I had to buy a Tekonsha Primus.... it works great. Not so fancy... but it will stop me. Tekonsha says there is a lifetime warranty on the P3....so I should be geting a new one on a few weeks and returning the Primus to the dealer.

Update: The Tekonsha Primus that I used for 2,475 miles of towing worked great. Unfortunately I will be returning it to the store, because it is too late to return my broken P3. But, the good news is that the P3 has a lifetime warranty and Tekonsha has told me to mail it back to them and they will send me back a new unit.

The brake controller issue was a crappy start to a jinxed trip. The day after my brake controller failed, the wife, the kids, the Tundra and the 4k lb fleetwood camper were doing ~ 75-80 MPH down I-95 South 10-20 miles South of the North Carolina / South Carolina state line ("South of the Border") when all of the sudden my speed dropped to about 65 MPH. Looked out my side view and realized that my camper tire had a blowout . Happy to say that everything handled great and we were able to safely pull into the shoulder to change the tire. Unfortunately it was 102 degrees outside and I had to turn of the Tundra for over an hour why the wife and kids melted inside. The grass on the side of I-95 was all the way up to the bottom of my doors and very dry.... I was afraid I would of started a fire if I left the engine running.

At the end of our camping, the day we left Jeckyll Island GA..... I was cranking down the pop-up and the lift system failed and the camper top fell for the last 4 feet .

What a crappy experience!!!

But, we did have a great time camping during the week and on the way out of GA I was able to have a local tire shop install brand new radials on my camper that I had ordered when we arrived in town. When I arrived at tires plus, I backed the camper in and they lifted the entire camper up off the ground while still attached to the Tundra ..... I almost crapped my pants. But the Tundra didn't seem to care one bit.... she barely squatted. In retrospect.... I should have snapped a pic to share with everyone.... but the camera was all packed up.

You're 100% correct on that, he!!, i had mine in 2 days. I paid $131+$7 for plug & play connector.
Haven't tried it out yet, but the wife's trying to talk me into going camping this weekend. We'll see.
