Default Tekonsha P3 - Stays on after truck off.

I just had a Tekonsha P3 installed in my 2002 Tundra. They had to hard wire it because the 02 apperantly didnt come with trailer break hook-up. Anyways... all works great but the unit stays on about 5 min after the truck is turned off. Is this commom or do you think something is wrong with the wiring?

Yes, it is supposed to work just like that. And to add, you should be able to turn it back on just by tapping the brakes, even if the truck has no keys in it.

Here is a quote for another thread on the same subject.

I have been doing some thinking and research on this...

#1-A switch would be one more possible "fail" point, you do not want a failure while towing...AT ALL, RIGHT!!!

#2-Your brake controller is always ready to work...Let's say for example, that the controller shut off with the ignition switch, now let's say that you did not have the keys in the ignition and the whole mess starts to roll, you really want to be fumbling around to find those keys?

I am sure there are more reasons, most of which will be "legal" to "idiot" proof the unit.

i installed the same unit in my 00 Tundra, actually i think it's suppose to stay on for 15 min after the ignition is shut off and after it has felt no movment in the truck
