Re: Tacoma and horse trailer
I just sold my 2002 Tacoma 4x4 Xtracab with Auto and V6 because of towing. I attend a lot of motorcycle rallies across the country and I didn't like the way the Taco pulled my 1,000lb covered trailer loaded with one bike, ranging from about 600lbs to about 900lbs (1900lbs max). But it's a covered trailer, so the wind come into play big time.
At reasonable speeds, you should be fine. Mountainous terrain may cause some issue. I have also found out that the Unichip may have been all I needed. But didn't find that out until after I switched.
I've also towed a throughbred height horse trailer. And old one, so it was all steel. The particular horse in the trailer was ill, so we went very slow. But the truck did fine.
Anything over 2000lbs, I'd make certain it had trailer brakes.
Love my Taco, love the Tundra too, but the Taco was an awesome truck.
