Aluminum Trailer Anchors

I recently bought a used Honda Rancher ATV and used, small (4X8) aluminum trailer and am looking for suggestions to strap down the ATV to the trailer.
The trailer doesn't have any anchor points/rings to attach straps to. The bed of the trailer is 1/2" plywood with an aluminum lip on the sides and front of 1 1/2" high. Under the plywood, around the edges is also a lip of 1 1/2" aluminum for supporting the plywood.
Other than channel that runs the width for spring support, the edges are really the only option I have for securing the ATV.

What are your thoughts for attaching some D-rings or some other anchors?

Well, here are a couple of thoughts...

C-clamps. A number of years ago I borrowed a trailer similar to yours (except is was steel) and the only way I could figure out how to tie down stuff without doing anything permanent to the trailer was C-clamps. I just put 4 clamps along the trailer rail and attached my straps to them. Maybe you could do something similar with some sort of hook or bracket that went around and under the rail?

If you decide to do something permanent, I would try to attach to metal wherever possible. Perhaps you can put a cross-bar from trailer rail to rail, underneath to attach to. I thought maybe some sort of backing plate behind the plywood, but I'd still be worried about it pulling through (only 1/2" plywood) during a fast stop or emergency. And of course, I'm sure you already thought of just putting a long strap all the way around, under the trailer.

Anyone else got any ideas?
