Towing Experience
I just towed my 26" toy hauler on a longer haul. Loaded it was pushing 10,000 lbs. Gas mileage was nothing to write home about. Most of the towing was fairly flat but the last part was up hill going to about 3500" It got an average of 5.9 MPG. On the way back with the down hill it got 7.8 mpg. It was windy both ways and the toy hauler has a pretty good frontal area. It was about 800 lbs lighter on the way back without the stored water and gas.
Power was excellent and it towed very good. Over all, I was very happy.
This truck will pull the weight better than any other gas engine truck I have driven. I used tow/haul mode. Fully loaded with the water and gas, it stayed in 4th most of the way at just below 3000 rpm at 65 mph. Being lighter on the way back it held in 5th most of the time at about 2200-2300 rpm @65.
Hills were no problem.
This truck is an animal. It's a double cab model. One other thing. It was about 97 degrees out and the engine temp and tranny temp guage never went any higher than normal. It was the same on a shorter tow at 110 degrees. My Powerstroke got better gas mileage, but I don't have the Toyota in the shop all the time and the Tundra is far more fun to drive.
