Default Towing hitch looseness

Hey, guys --

I've been running a reg cab long bed Tundra for 3000 miles -- awesome truck. Hitched up a trailer this weekend, and noticed considerable vertical slack in the trailer hitch receiver when I fitted my solid adjustable hitch. Has anyone found a practical way to encase either the hitch or the receiver to reduce the slop? I can imagine it will get annoying on undulated road surfaces.

Other than this question, this has been the most impressive truck I've owned in the 25 years that I've driven 1/2 tons. Outstanding!

Thanks.
Jim

About 1 thickness of duct tape on the top and another on the bottom makes mine fit snugly. Before? lots of rattles, after? no rattles

I made a sheet metal shim out of an old computer case.

Drill a hole in the bottom of the receiver, tap the hole and put a bolt through it.

Oh man. While I was at SEMA I saw a company selling hitches with brass fittings on the end of the stinger. They picked up the slack as the receiver wore out. If I can remember the company, I'll get it up here. Did anyone else see them out there? They were near our booth in the offroad section. I might be able to find them on the SEMA map.

I cut out a piece of plastic from a gallon milk jug and fit it around three sides of the "stinger". I rap it around the stinger and shove it in the receiver all together. After one trip the plastic will stay molded around the stinger and fits perfect!

I might have to add some shims to reduce the vertical sloppiness in my Equal-i-zer hitch. Takes a lot of extra hitch head angle just to make up for the vertical play of the Eqaul-i-zer shank in the Tundra receiver.

RV stores (and RVWarehouse.com) carry devices to eliminate the slack.

The silent hitch pins only work if the ball mount is hollow.
