    Default Equal-i-zerŽ on a C-channel frame?

I have an 18' flat deck trailer that I use to haul my Jeep. Jeep/Trailer combo weight of 6500# (trailer is rated for 12,000#). Using the 15% rule for tongue weight, I am running 975# (trailer is rated for 1800#) on the tongue. I have decided to run a WDH. I find that the Tundra steering is lighter than I like. I have been getting some conflicting information reference running an Equal-i-zerŽ hitch on a C-channel frame. Some say I need to weld a piece of metal in to box the frame where the frame mounts will be installed. Looking at the Equal-i-zerŽ installation instructions, it appears 2 flat pieces of stock run on either side of the frame making a sandwich. Anyone know why I need to box in the frame? Anyone running an Equal-i-zerŽ on a C-channel frame?

Physically, it should work farily easily. They might want to add a backer plate so as not to crush the C channel. I would call Equal-i-zer and see what they say.

Good call on adding a WDH to that setup. 700 lbs on the hitch equates to 300 lbs removed from the front axle and 1000 lbs added to the rear axle. When you add a WDH, that solves the problem and then some. The front axle will likely remain the same as unloaded (maybe a little heavier). The rear axle will get 500 lbs and the trailer axles will take the rest.

I played around with my Reese Dual Cam a lot. I have a hitch weight of around 700 lbs. I used 800 lbs bars initially, but never got added any weight back on the front axle, just got it back to the same weight as empty. So I went with 1200 lbs bars and went overboard with the tension. I ended up bending my OEM hitch and now need a new one. I had the rear end up higher than empty and got 200 lbs on the front axle, but that was stupid. Gonna cost me $260 for a new hitch.

    mwatch:

The 10% tongue weight rule is NOT automatic but depends on the positioning of the load. You need a tongue weight scale to measure the actual tongue weight and adjust the load so that it does not EXCEED 10 to 15%. Read this article about toy hauling Towing Guide. Improper trailer loading can flip your trailer, your truck and cause general havoc. I use a Sherline tongue weight scale to adjust my load and get the correct tongue weight BEFORE towing. It's easy and the scale is only ~$100 Tongue weight scale
