I just picked up a 2000
tundra with the SR5 and 4wheel drive. It doesn't have the tow package, so I was thinking of getting an aftermarket Hitch. I've bought Curt Hitches for my Tacoma, and It's done ok, but I want to tow a 4000lb trailer. I found the service manual online and saw pictures of the factory hitch. It has a lot more bolt connections then the after-market ones. There are something like 5 bolts on each side of the hitch assy and 4 bolts into the bumper. The after market ones I've found only have 2 bolts on each side and 2 into the bumper. Or Tree bolts on a side and 0 into the bumper.
Hidden Hitch seems to have gotten rid of the version that has the built in 7-prong cutout and gone to a generic one that they share with Draw-tite?
Can you get the factory tow package somewhere for a reasonable price? Are there any after market ones you'd recommend? Is it over designed and I should just go with the 150 dollar Class III? Etrailer has one for 117 dollars..
http://www.hiddenhitch.com/fitguides/pdf/N87588.pdf is the link and you can see there are three hitches Part numbers on there. Does that mean they sold out and only sell one hitch now for multi brand names? What if I want the beefier factory one? Can I order that online?
