Default 07 tundra 5.7 towing 10000 with 1500 tongue

I have an 07 tundra 5.7 with tow package. I am looking at a 32 foot couger that has 1500 lb tongue weight emty weight 8600lb with 1600 lb add on weight this puts it at 10,200 lb and the truck is rated for 10,300. the bed limit is 1470 which puts me over a little and I am afraid with extra storage it wil be more like 1650 after extras. I plan on putting a firestone 2445 airbag on to take care of the sag but what I would like to know about is power and axel failure does anyone have any opinion on how safe I will be with thiws type of unit?

You first need to know your gawr which the axle weight limit of your rear axel. Look inside your door jam (driver side) and you will find not only the front and rear axle limits but also the total weight your truck should be
I have an 06 tundra. The rear axle limit is 3760 lbs. I weighed the front and rear axle at a scale with just me and about one half tank of gas. The rear weight was 2340 and the front was around 3000lbs. If I were hauling the tongue weight your are talking about my rear axle weight would be at least 3840 and probably more. Because the front axle would shift some more weight to the rear axle unless you have an weight-distributing hitch. So there is good chance you will be over the rear axle limit. If you get a wdhitch you would be ok.

CHeck the hitch on the Tundra and see what the sticker says it's rated at. DO NOT EXCEED THIS HITCH RATING. It will rip off the truck. Been there, done that. There is only one hitch that I know of that is rated for over 1200 lbs weight distributing capacity and it ain't on the Tundra.

The toy hauler I use to have had a tongue weight of 1800 lbs when i did not have the quads in the back with out a single issue . I now have a 27 ft TT with a front kitchen and double wide 30'' deep side . the water tanks are all so in front of the trailer axels so there is at least as much tongue on the new trailer as the old .

I have only wieghed the toy hauler to check the axle weights to see how much of a difference the WD hitch made . With the 1800 lbs of tongue weight my 07 tundra was still under it's axle weight . You can't compare the gen 1 tundras in any way to the new ones .

just get the weight distributing hitch mount and you'll be fine.

I just want to reiterate that the hitch has max gross hitch weight limits listed right on it. I looked up aftermarket hitches for the NEW Tundra and the most you can do is 1,200 lbs gross hitch weight. Tha's a class V receiver. I could not find a Titan 2 1/2" receiver for the Tundra. The Titan is rated to 1,500 lbs max gross hitch weight. Max gross hitch weight is for weight distribution.

So, you should not pull a trailer with a hitch weight that exceeds 1,200 lbs. Period. Dot. Can you? Sure. But don't. Lots of talk about how Toyota rates their GVWR and GCWR and GAWR conservatively. But I have never met anyone that says it's ok to exceed a hitch rating. Please don't do it. Get a bigger truck.

The biggest difference between the gen 1 toyota 2000-2006) is the towing capacity and the engine size. THe payload is not much diff between a 06 and a 07-08. That is because the new tundras are over 5oo lbs heavier.
The gross vehicle weght rating is higher but the payload is not much difference. I doubt the frames are much different. If they were the payload would be greater than 1650 lbs. on a double 4wd

I'm a big believer in th 80% rule of towing.... as in don't exceed 80% of the max on a regular basis. The new Tundras are nice but YOU need a bigger truck to haul THAT load. It ain't gonna like it.

Is this a 5th wheel? I have a 32' Outback that isnt close to that hitch weight and i believe they are similiar in weights with the outback and cougar.

Just my 2 cents... Spend the extra coin and get a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel.

I love my tundra, and it tows my 20ft enclosed car hawler very well, BUT I still miss my 03 dodge cummins, and now that I have moved from an open trailer to an enclosed I wish I had the extra grunt and weight, of the diesel.

I used to tow an enclosed utility trailer that weighed about 8000 lbs with the dodge, and it towed quite a bit better all around than the tundra does with my 20ft 6500lb trailer now...
