Default '04 Tundra V6 w/5 Spd Man Towing Cap?

Title kind of says it all. The vehicle is a SR5 Access Cab with standard bed. My owner's manual says I should be good to 5000# but that belies what my "expert" friends tell me especially with my 5 spd manual transmission. The manual also makes no distinction between automatic or manual transmissions, which I also am also skeptical of. I expected the number to be something in the neighborhood of 2500-3000#. My truck has none of the towing bells and whistles. My intention was to purchase a class III or IV hitch, do the wiring, and go. I searched the forums as well as googling the rest of the world and was surprised to not being able to find a table since I readily found one for the Tacomas. Real world numbers would really be appreciated. Thanks. TL
