Anyone have problems with aftermarket Tow Hitch Receiver Lock?
I just recently bought some new toys(4Wheelers) and am trying to lock in the hitch to the back of the truck for the trailer.
I have bought two types of locks both the Pin with clip and the standard locking type and neither are long enough. A friend of mine just bought a new 4runner and had the pin that Toyota provided. The pin fit perfectly for the Tundra receiver.....only problem though is that it doesn't lock. Since someone has already stolen the Toyota Emblem cover for my tow receiver, I don't really feel like putting something else out there that isn't securable.
Has anyone else had this problem with any locks? They all seem to be a little short.
BTW - All locks tried have been Master Locks.

Re: Anyone have problems with aftermarket Tow Hitch Receiver Lock?
The receivers on the new Tundras are a little beefier than most. The receiver lock from my 05 Tundra was too short to fit my 07. I found a 3" (I think it is a Master Lock), at Auto Zone. Fits my receiver perfectly. Pretty sure my old one was a 2.5" Just look around, I believe that I saw them at Wal Mart also.
Re: Anyone have problems with aftermarket Tow Hitch Receiver Lock?
I picked up one of those "all-in-one" kits at Wal-mart (hitch/ball/lock) and they fit just fine. But I have seen another thread on here where others were have the same problem.
Re: Anyone have problems with aftermarket Tow Hitch Receiver Lock?
ya the problem is you need a class 4 or 5 locking pin....the ones for the class 3 or 2 are shorter....I had the same problem with my old lock...I haven't found a longer one yet.....

The "hockey stick" type work.
Have four pad locks all keyed alike.
Hitch, tounge, cable lock, and the bike rack on the back of the trailer.
Simple, cheap, and effective.

Just go to the hardware store, get yourself the right sized snap shackle, and replace them.

Re: Anyone have problems with aftermarket Tow Hitch Receiver Lock?
Sounds like you pretty much have it figured out, but just thought I would throw it out there that I got mine at Lowes. It has two different sized pins that will fit the same lock so it will work on all my vehicles.
Re: Anyone have problems with aftermarket Tow Hitch Receiver Lock?
Does anyone know the diameter of the pin for the tundra hitch? I am assuming its the 5/8" and not the 1/2"? Some of the locking pins come with a sleeve to accommodate both sizes but sometimes you do have to choose.....
Re: Anyone have problems with aftermarket Tow Hitch Receiver Lock?
It requires the 5/8" one.
