Just got back tonight & everything went well & we had a good time.
For those who responded to the other disneyland thread, thank you.
There were 4 rigs that went down & here they are:
Dad----Tundra D/C, 5.7, SR5 towing a 8800lb 5er.
Brother--Tundra " towing a 7500lb 5er.
Me-----Tundra " towing a 7500lb 5er.
Bro-in-law---GMC DC, 2500 HD, 6.0L w/ 4spd. towing a 7500lb 5er.
Take a wild guess who had a hard time keeping up on the hills.
If you guessed the 6.0 GM, they you are exactly right. It was no problem for the tundra's to maintain speed on the hills, but the sucko had a hard time plus was stopping for gas sooner than he thought. Everytime we stopped, we still had 1/3 of a tank left, but he was on empty. All had the same size tank.
Needless to say, he is NOT happy with the power the sucko puts out. However, he has a 6" lift w/ 33x12.50 toyo mt's. But he has chipped it, and is running 4.10 rear end gearing. After tires it probably puts him at 3.60 or so.
I did get some temperature readings with my laser thermometer on the rear diffs, and the trannsmissions.
When tested right below the fill plug on the diff. The HD was at 162 degrees F, And our tundra's were between 153 & 156. The 153 was my bro's that was running Amsoil SG 75w90 full synthetic, and the others dino.
The transmission readings were gotten next to the plug. The HD read 119, and all the tundra's were running between 154 & 156 degrees F.
I don't understand why the HD read so much cooler. The only thing i can figure is the pan was not metal like the tundra's, but was cast aluminum looking. ?????
Driving conditions were 85 degrees, hilly, windy, & at 70-75 mph. Readings were taken at Mesquite NV coming home out of CA thru Baker & then Las Vegas NV.
Interesting how all the tundra's were running so close, but yet one was pulling close to 2000lbs more weight. Go figure????
From the temp readings, I don't see a red flag saying we are hurting these trucks.
My dad can not beleive how well his tundra towed his 9k lb trailer. He just can't stop talking about it.
Oh, MPG in the tundra's averaged between 7 & 10 mpg, but we drive 70-75 mph. The 6.0 got between 5 & 8 trying to keep up with the tundra's.
Nice to hear how well your trip went. I did the same trip last year in my 05 Tundra pulling a 23' Lite Weight, and can't wait to pull my new Toyhauler with the new 5.7. Thanks for all the details, and enjoy more trips like that with your family, since some of us don't have the time to do things like that together.
Great write up! I am not surprised that the Tundra's pulled better than the HD. Motor Trends TOTY test showed the Tundra out pulled the of the 3/4 tons. Though that wasn't real world, your write up is!

And to think that my dad's rig, witch was right at about 16k GCWR (maxed out) got better mileage AND pulled the hills better.
He!!, the HD was towing 2000 lbs LESS and couldn't keep up.
This is very good to hear as we are taking our first trip with the new fiver on Friday.
We are planning a trip to see Mickey our selves this fall. Which RV park did you stay in? Would you recommend it?
Thanks for the report.
Bill
We stayed in the Anaheim RV village. NO i do not recomend it. They pack you in like sardines, and there is only palm trees for shade witch isn't much.
There is a nicer park just down the street. Some lady had to stay in the RV village due to reservation mix ups, and was not happy at all. The RV village is on Ball rd in Anaheim, and we were told the better one was just down the street.
Wow. You guys passed me on the I 15 in Las Vegas last week. Nice rigs. Didn't look like you guys had any trouble keeping up, or passing traffic for that matter.

Woah... Small World!

Where was it we passed you at? Was it on the hill going south?
That looooong azz hill going south out of vegas (not sure how far) is a pretty good pull.
My dad's rig (16000 GCWR) pulled that hill at 75 mph no problem. He is extremely pleased with his tundra.
I felt sorry for my bro-in law's HD though. He had to get gas shortly after that hill. He said he sat and watched the gas guage go down in a big hurry.
He still didn't get as good mileage going slower on the way home.

Thanks.
Were you in a tundra?
We sure seen quite a few new ones on the road. We waved at all of them. No trouble keeping up and passing traffic. I think we passed more than not. Yeah, we do drive a little fast.
