This is a discussion thread titled "Anyone tow with the 07 4.7?", within the Towing forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Newbie that bought the 4.7 because I dont have a trailer. Just a daily driver but with summer here I was wondering what I could pull?
As long as you have the tow package & tranny cooler on your truck, you can pull almost anything under the max tow capacity of your truck. I think it was like 8500lbs?
I owned the older 02 4.7 & towed with it quite a bit, and it did okay. Yours should do better with the vvti & 5 speed. Mine only had the 4 speed and it had too much spacing between gears.
I have been wondering this same thing. I almost bought a 6000# travel trailer , until I saw that it had a 950# hitch weight.
Everybody over at RV.Net told me that even with a more reasonable hitch weight the 4.7 would not tow anything over
5500 lbs. well. The truck is rated for 7800, but limited in the payload. I think with air bags and a weight distribution hitch
I should be able to tow up to 6000#...am I wrong?

Take stuff you hear on rv.net with a grain of salt. A lot of them are yota haters & they're full of $h!t on some things.
I would venture to say that your 4.7 will outperform some of the domestic gassers out there with a 6k lb trailer. I know for a fact you'd outpull the GM 6.0 no problem, that motor is a dog unless heavily modded. You have more power than my 02 had, an extra gear, better hitch, and a longer wheelbase. I used my 02 to pull our 7500 lb 5er & it did okay but needed an extra gear in a bad way.
No you are not wrong to think that. I think the truck would surprise you. I say go for it.
I have a 6000lb fifth wheel that does just fine with a 2006 4.7 engine. My pin weight is just over 1000lb. Have to watch how the trailer and truck are loaded but I don't exceed the max truck weight ratings.
I have a 07 Tundra with a 4.7 and was also leary about towing a Travel Trailer with it based on posts on RV.net, even though I tow a bike trailer at around 3000 lbs and the truck dont even know it's there--I now have 30 ft trailer at around 6000 lbs and a hitch weight of 680 lbs and 10 miles down the road I had a big ole smile on my face---I have towed with Dodge and Chevy pickups and an Avalanche and nothing compares to my Tundra--I have put on about 10 hours towing and it does great--I cant imagine what a 5.7 would be like--but someday I will find out--till then your 4.7 will do just fine and will tow most anything a domestic 1/2 ton will tow but do it better
