Default 2002 tundra wiring harness question

I have a 2002 tundra. there is currently a wire harness behind the bumper on the driver side close to the taillight. From searching on here, these seems to be where a wiring harness such as T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector 118378 : Trailer hitch bike rack and trailer hitches - etrailer.com can be installed. Is there a reason why I just couldn't cut and connect the wires myself instead of paying 50 bucks for a harness? I could also do the same thing for the battery end.

Where would I find the harness for the brake controller though?

Thanks,

Andrew
