How do you guys get away towing fifth wheels? The hitch weight alone kills it for me and I am looking at models with 1100-1300 pounds of hitch weight. After loading up family and gear, I am way over the cargo amount....
2008 Fun Finder XT200 pulled by an '03 Tundra with TRD package. Still haven't completely figured out how to get rid of the "squat" on the tow vehicle but almost have it licked. This photo was taken prior to adjustments that made things much better. Love the trailer...use the toy hauler to bring a small jon boat.
Recently towed my fiancee's 2005 Saturn Ion 1200 miles from Missouri to Arizona. I've only had the truck for about a month now and I am very impressed with the truck. I'm guessing the trailer w/ the car was around 6000lbs and truck sat perfectly level. I didn't get a picture of it, but there was still about 4" of room between the bump stop and the frame after the car was loaded. Held between 3000-3200rpm at 70mph the entire way home.......I was passing big rigs going uphill.....although the 10mpg sucked! I love this truck.

I guess I need to research 5er's a bit better.
Take a look at my '5th wheel actual weight's' post in this towing section, and you'll see that my 1250lb pin weight is within GAWR of the truck, and well within GCWR. The trailer was weighed mostly loaded for camping. Not dry or ULVW. The ULVW or dry weight of my trailer is listed at 6250, and ended up at 7500 mostly loaded.
It's not hard to go over the listed payload of the truck, or ANY truck for that matter. It's important for you to know that you should be looking at the GAWR ( in the camper section of the manual) for a 5th wheel, and not the payload listed. The reason the payload is listed, is because the truck comes with crappy car tires and no extra spring capacity. You add 10-ply tires and some airbags, and IMO you just increased the capacity of the truck.
If you look at some more posts here, you'll find this truck is 3/4 ton built, with 1/2 ton rear springs.
For your info: the GAWR in the manual shows the truck capable of 4100 lbs front axle, and 4100 rear on a 4x4 DC SR5 with the 5.7L. It is recomended to not exceed these ratings.

We just bought a new 2008 Jayco 32BHDS Travel Trailer in June from Terrytown RV in Michigan.
Trailer weighs 7855lbs dry - Total weight of truck and trailer is about 14500lbs, depending on how much my wife packs.
I am currently using Husky weight distribution and single friction sway bar. I will either be purchasing another sway bar or going the way of cam sway bars. I believe I can buy an attachment so I can use my current torsion bars. I definitely know the trailer is behind me, but the truck handles it quite well. Fuel mileage is a wonderful 8-9 mpg with trailer.

That's great. Made the plunge today on a Tundra. Gonna upgrade from my 250BHS Fun Finder to a 310BHS Outback double slide...twice as much room as the 25footer. Glad to hear that you're towing a bigger one with no probs.
I believe that outback is the same unit i have but the newer version, ours is a 2007 Outback Sydney 32bhds. You'll love it, we have, but it is a lot of trailer behind the tundra @ 35' total lenth and 8200lbs loaded.

That is a lot of trailer, would you guys feel comfortable towing it across the US? We took a 25 footer with our Taco to Main so a 35 footer with the Tundra shouldn't be too bad? My one concern is getting campsites at National parks, most top out out west around 30ft I thought?
yes it is a lot of trailer....for any size truck. I have been to Va from Ma and back no problems, up state NY and Maine, no problems. I take my time and my average speed with cruise control set is about 63mph, i have never been lacking power to pull any hills yet. Would i cross the coutry, well i know the rockies might be a challange considering it is a small block gas engine towing its max at a high altitude, so i might not consider it for me.
As for theh length, it is 32' but i say 35' because of the hitch. My buddy has the same length trailer so we rarely camp in state parks that dont accept large trailers.

We decided on the 310BHS, we like all the bunks and the U shaped dinette. I'm going to get it but I'm going to try and sell my FF first. The problem with buying from a wholesaler is that when you want to trade, they can only give you something below wholesale...ouch.
This thread kinda makes me sad...over on the Honda Ridgeline Owners Club (I used to own an Element and tow with it) they have 44 PAGES of pictures of Ridgelines towing...we should have way more here.... http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/f...=12327&page=44
