page 44 post #6. all i have to say is WOW! i am surprised that that v6 can handle that amount of weight considering they are unibody!
They have a 5000# limit, my Tacoma had a 6500# and I towed a big 25ft 5500lbs trailer with it, but never a skidsteer or jeep, trailer and quads!! Crazy! I give that guy the mini-Tundra award.

didn't realize that the ridgeline has a 5000# limit. thats a lot. read on honda's website, "The Ridgeline has an ultra-rigid unit body that’s reinforced with an integrated closed-box frame. This tow-friendly approach gives the Ridgeline extraordinary torsional rigidity." indeed it does. traditional, unibody vehicles do not tow all that great. i did see a dodge stratus towing like a 7000# boat once!

Upgraded to the Tundra from a Dakota. Needed a little more towing capacity, and since I have been towing loads that would have been more than impossible with the Dakota. Been back and further between Augusta and Cincy numerous times towing the boat, bobcat, and enclosed motorcycle trailer. All good experiences, but the most weight has been locally. A mini ex (~9500 lbs w/ trailer), and countless trailer loads of building material and gravel. Finally broke down and put air bags on this past weekend. Should help with the heavy loads in the future.
07 & up Tundras have the power to tow large trailers but need upgraded tires and suspension upgrades such as airbags to handle the weight.
Mine handles a 36' 9000lbs TT with stock tires, stock suspension and has no problems. I use the Equalizer to distribute the weight and that's all I need for a smooth ride, over 600 miles towing so far, 200 on ICE! Last year I did over 5000 with my Tacoma and old 26' trailer.
Nice Outback! I have a 07 sydney 32bhds, similiar floor plan but the rear slide has a couch/pull out bed. The kitchen is table/chairs, i do miss the storage of the dinnette.
Check out www.outbacker.com lot of good info on the trailers. Just dont go telling them you tow with a tundra, the self appointed weight police will beat you down.

My 2009 5.7L Tundra DC hauls my 20' Sea Hunt boat, motor and trailer with ease. Had to go with the silver Tundra to match my silver motor.
I took these pictures at the ramp before doing some fishing this morning. Gotta love 78º F in January.

Without the upgrades, my trailer and truck looked like a V in tandem and I didn't feel very comfortable towing it. It might have something to do with the tongue weight being different.

I plan on getting the airbags so the Equalizer doesn't have to work as hard, plus it will help when hauling. I had two pallets of flooring in the bed the other day and it dropped the rear quite a bit...probably cause it was 2000lbs...but nevertheless, I think I will be getting the Firestones, should make the ride even better.

can someone help me here? with a gvwr of 16000 lbs, and an actual gvw of 5880 lbs, would i be ok pulling a fifth wheel trailer weighing 8550 lbs. Hitch pin weight 1575 lbs. Tow package 10,300 lbs. I get different answers. toyota says no problem...rv dealer says no problem...calculations with payload capacity of 1580.

If that 5880 lbs is the weight of the truck, then subtract that from 7200 lbs and that is your actual cargo capacity = 1320 lbs. Your pin weight is 1575 lbs and you need to add a 5er hitch which will weigh min 150 lbs. So let's do some simple math:
7200 lbs GVWR of your truck
- 5880 lbs what your truck weighs
- 150 lbs 5er hitch
- 1575 lbs pin weight
= -405 lbs
So, you're starting off well over the GVWR. Things to consider:
1. Does that 5880 lbs you stated as the GVW include everything that will be in the truck when towing?
2. Is that 1575 lbs pin weight the loaded weight or the manufacturer's listed pin weight?
Your rear axle probably weighs around 2500 lbs with an empty truck. Your RAWR is 4170 lbs:
So, you will be over your GVWR and your RAWR. If you tow with an empty truck, you should be OK. Personally, I think once you load the trailer and the truck and go to the scales, you will be way overweight and dangerous. But I tend to tow within the manufacturer's limits.

Actually it is Outbackers.com (with an 's'). I've been a member since 2004 (#11) and yeah, I tow with a Tundra. No one has hassled me.

little typo..forgot the "S". yes, the weight police arent that bad on there, they tend to get a little out of control on www.trailerlife.com
Agreed. I honestly don't even bother with the "other" RV web sites. Tundra Solutions and Outbackers are my favs! Oh yeah, I like YarisWorld too for my little communter car so I can find new mods for him. I'm pretty much done with modding the Tundra, well...almost done.
Sorry for the digression.
