Looking for aftermarket transmission cooler for 07 Tundra w/5.7
I have an 07 Tundra RCSB with the tow package delete and I was wondering if anyone has added an after market auxilary transmission cooler to the 07-08 Tundra with the 5.7? I called the dealer and they want $800 for the cooler and parts not including installation. I've ordered trans. coolers on 2 of my previous Chevy's as a factory option and they ran about $125. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Re: Looking for aftermarket transmission cooler for 07 Tundra w/5.7
why? Doesnt yours already have one, i assumed it was on all the 5.7's.
i tow an 8500lb trailer in 90degree heat up hils and have never seen that gauge move.

If you have tow pkg delete, I guess that also deletes the trans cooler. But I'd make sure, first. If you aren't towing, why are you worried you'll overheat the trans? Do you expect it will heat up just with regular driving?
If you absolutely need the cooler, and don't want to come up with the extra big bucks, I'd start looking for a wrecked Tundra. But not towing, I'd be surprised to hear of trans overheating problems.
Edit: sorry I just saw your other post. I'd look for a wrecked truck, although a totalled truck probably was hit in the front end, so the cooler may be toast anyway

About four years ago I bought a larger tranny cooler and in line filter for my 1st gen Tundra from these guys: IPT Performance Transmissions Torque Converters and Transmission Parts for Import vehicles. Read through the documentation for each one to figure out what size you need. I would also suggest measuring the available space in your engine compartment so you know what the max size (dimensionally speaking) would be. Their tranny cooler and filter has worked flawlessly for me.

I was trying to remember who it was that seemed to know more about this issue, but i couldn't. Now i know who it was.

I think, without measuring mine that this is probably the closest in size to the OEM on my truck. 5.75" x 11.25" i think it was. It is for a 19000 lb GVWR which is overkill, but at least it bypasses until the trans reaches operating temps.

Herbicidal, would you consider this one a thermostatically controlled unit?
I beleive that's what you recomended, isn't it? TCU.
Glad I could help! I checked your link and it does appear to be a "thermostatically controlled" unit. This description in the body of the text is what leads me to believe it is: "Self regulating for maximum lube flow protection through cold start-up, varied temperatures and driving conditions, heavy loads and towing."
Yes, get a theromstatically controlled one. I believe all the ones that IPT sells have that feature. Don't forget to pick up an in-line filter, it's cheap additional insurance. Regarding the one you're looking at, as long as you don't have to modify the hood...it's all good!
